At the NYBG event, I was the happy recipient of a jar of coconut oil (thanks, Alejandra!), with which I plan on whipping up delicious meals while simultaneously slathering the stuff over my entire body (it smells like heaven and makes an incredible moisturizer). Coconut oil, by the way, is excellent for the immune and digestive systems, has tons of antioxidants, and is commonly thought of as one of the healthier fats.
Some neat ways to use coconut oil:
– Fry eggs in it to add an interesting flavor kick.
– Rub a bit into your scalp to treat dandruff (don’t use too much!).
– Add a tablespoon or so to your smoothie (I’ve never done this, but apparently it creates a more “ice cream-like” effect).
– Spread on toast as a substitute for butter or margarine.
– Apply to dry lips as a makeshift Chapstick, or rub a touch into the ends of your hair as a leave-in conditioner.
– Add a little to your morning coffee instead of sugar.
– Fill an ice tray with the oil, and use the cubes to flavor cocktails (this works especially well with rum-based drinks).
– Use as massage oil on a very lucky special someone.
Any other uses you can think of?
