So Into You

Ray-Ban Sunglasses; Sanctuary Button-Down (similar); Ann Taylor Parachute Pants (similar) }

You may have noticed that I kind of like my sunglasses. I always have, mostly because sunglasses mean you can be lazy about things like putting on mascara and still look pretty good running out of the house in the morning…but since my son arrived I do not go without them.

You know how some women are super into shoes, and buy pair after pair after pair? I’m not really a shoe person (mostly because I will definitely screw them up, and if they were expensive that will make me sad)…but sunglasses?

Take Me To Santorini

One of my favorite trips I've ever taken in my life was with my friend Tia, during our spring break from studying abroad in London. That's us up there. I think we're 20.

When the semester ended we hopped a cheap flight to Athens, and then spent a week jumping between Greek Islands and staying in the most budget hostels we could find, and it was as amazing as it sounds: we ate yogurt with honey every morning, drank ouzo every night (and drank Coronas and milkshakes during the day, apparently), and spent our days climbing long, twisting flights of white steps up mountainsides in search of a gorgeous building or a little shop that sold homemade olive oil. We also wore lots of sweatshirts, because we had heard the words "Greek Islands" and not realized that even islands can be cold when you visit them in March.

I want to go back so badly. Bucket-listed.

A Ring, Just Because

Remember that ad campaign about Right Hand Diamond Rings (I think it was a Zales thing?) targeted at women who weren't interested in waiting around for a guy to buy them a diamond, and wanted to just go ahead and get one themselves?

While I think the campaign was slightly problematic (because the whole Left Ring Finger Is Reserved For His Purposes Only thing always seemed a little antiquated to me)...I also think it's pretty cool. Because there's something really wonderful about buying yourself a special piece of jewelry for no other reason than that you deserve to wear something beautiful that you love, and you don't need to wait around for anyone else to tell you so.

How-To: Bright Purple Eyeshadow

{ Plum Pretty Sugar robe; Swarovski earrings }

I've been breaking out the bright eyeshadow shades a ton over the past couple of months, and this weekend - which was full of trips to the garden center for flowers, outdoor grilling, and bouncy-castle-inclusive fairs - I thought I'd go for the purple. In the past, I've incorporated purple shades into smoky grey or chocolate-brown looks, but it's been more about giving the look depth than spotlighting the color.

New season, new beauty. Let's try spotlighting.

Weird Product Test-Run: Lierac Huile Sensorielle

I am completely obsessed with this product.

I'm a huge, huge fan of multi-purpose oils - in the past I've used (and loved) African Marula Oil for my face and Leonor Greyl Oil for my hair. They're probably a bit too much for those who aren't alligator-skinned…but for the Dry Ones among us? They are miraculous. And Lierac Huile Sensorielle, which can be used on face, body and hair, is especially wonderful: fast-absorbing, incredible-smelling, super-light, and deeply moisturizing.

Also: even though it's only been around for a couple of years, it feels like one of those vintage-y, romantic cult products that only you know about. Which is always fun.
