In my defense, "hiking" (and the associated crossing-of-streams) wasn't on the original schedule; we were just planning a quick picnic lunch in a nearby state park before heading to a party...but then Indy spotted a creek, and:

I have never understood the point of a bodysuit. I think they're chic and look great on other people, but then I put one on myself and think, "Hmmm, this is extremely tight. And in order to go to the bathroom I have to get completely naked. And I could probably get the same effect minus the nudity with...drumroll...a tucked-in shirt." And when I arrive at that conclusion - which I do, every time - the bodysuit goes back on the rack and I escape with my wallet and dignity intact.

OK, so I'm started to get excited about fall shopping. This makes no sense at all, because I am right this very minute sitting at my dining room table sweating off all my makeup and wishing air conditioning wasn't so damn expensive. It also makes no sense because fall fashion is wayyyy less fun in California than it is on the East Coast, both because there's something about multicolored leaves that make things like peacoats and boots more exciting to put on, and because I would look not-so-mildly ridiculous swanning up to kindergarten dropoff in most of the items I've been drooling over online. (Like these. Very lovely; very nonsensical in my life at this particular moment in time.)

While I was in the city last week, Erin and I decided to tick off one of our to-dos and shoot some photos to use for book publicity purposes – like for press releases and such, since people tend to request a photo to go along with the text. Obviously I’m not exactly in short supply in the photo department, but we strangely don’t have any shots of us together (save for one or two massively, massively awkward ones, which I love quite a lot but are mayyyybe not exactly what people are referring to when they request an “author photo”).
So we booked a photographer, chose outfits that were respectably non-clashing (I wore the same thing that I wore in this post because I shot both at the same time), and tried to stand next to each other and simultaneously look like normal-ish human beings (which is not as easy as you might think). First, though, we got our hair done, because who doesn’t want to have pretty hair for a photograph? Nobody, that’s who. And when you’re dealing with Manhattan-in-July heat and humidity, sometimes it’s nice to get some professional help.
