All Dressed Up

French Quarter | New Orleans

Joie Top (similar) | Vintage Velvet Pants (similar) | Gucci Sunnies | Gucci Bag

I talk a lot lately about how I'm over getting dressed up, how I never want to wear heels again, how I feel best in a t-shirt and shorts. All this is true. But for our New Orleans trip, I thought it'd be fun to bring a bunch of pieces that sit all forlorn and unworn in my closet for months (or years) on end because there is virtually nowhere that I go in my normal life where I can wear them. New Orleans has always seemed to me like the kind of city that lets you do and be and wear anything you want, so for a few days I thought I'd just...play.

It’s The Most Wonderful Tiiiiiime Of The Year

Black Polish [bullet] Matte Top Coat

I've posted about this look before, but it's good enough that it deserves a repeat. Mostly because it was inspired by The Craft. (Obviously.) This manicure basically a mashup between a black manicure and a traditional French manicure, and works with pretty much any costume…but is still elegant enough to go to the office the next morning.

I Have Discovered My New Look

And it is called "Tourist."

More specifically, "Elderly Tourist."

I bought a TRUCKER HAT, you guys. And not just a trucker hat: a vacation souvenir trucker hat (California Love from the AdventureLand store in Disneyland, which is filled mostly with Billabong stuff and which is very clearly a place that one should never purchase apparel, but there you go). And I didn't just wear this trucker hat...I went ahead and wore it with my vacation souvenir t-shirt (from the Rainforest Cafe - as is proudly noted in bold red cursive across the torso).

Calme et Saine

The other day, my son came into my bedroom to wake me up, and when I rolled over to say good morning to him he scrunched up his eyes. “Mom?” he asked, “Why is your face so red?”

Excellent question, my love. The answer could be one of a thousand things, from the fact that I drank too much coffee yesterday to the fact that I forgot to use my hydrating moisturizer before bed or the fact that I woke up to retrieve wayward stuffed bunnies and water cups six times last night. “Sensitive” doesn’t even cut it as a description for my skin; it reacts in a major way to everything from pollution to stress and fatigue. And during the transitional parts of the year, as it adjusts to warmer or cooler weather, keeping it calm becomes an even trickier prospect.
