Test-Run: Press-On Manicure

Just to skip ahead to the end: I love these. Because they are pretty and weird-easy to apply, and also because I am lazy about my nails and products like press-on nails are basically a godsend.

Never in a million years would I be capable of growing out my nails so that they were lovely and even, and even if I were capable of such a feat I would not be able to work it out so that I would not chip or smudge or otherwise irreparably destroy my polish within thirty seconds of application. I've played around with nail strips and DIY Gel Manicure Kits in the past, and the ImPRESS kit is my favorite faux nail solution by far.

DIY Sugar Lip Exfoliator

My lips are a mess lately. Red, chapped, painful, flaky, all that.

I carry lip balm with me everywhere I go and apply it like a nut, but still: they're a mess. It's the whole dry-heat-inside/winter-air-outside thing; it just does a number on me.

The past few days have been especially bad, so last night I went on a hunt for some very fancy and expensive lip exfoliator that I remembered picking up at an event months and months ago. Alas, it appears that the very fancy and expensive lip exfoliator was sacrificed to The Moving Gods.

But you know what I did find while searching for a fix for my flakiness?

Perfect Tees For Spring

In this month's Glamour, I state the obvious: I am all about a really phenomenal t-shirt (check out the Structured Tee here - my favorite version is the white with black stripes). When I find the right one, I wear it everywhere...because to me a perfect t-shirt paired with great accessories looks right for just about any occasion (with jeans on the weekend, with a pencil skirt for meetings, with leather leggings for a date, and so on).

I've been writing about LOFT's t-shirts (the Sunwashed Tee is pictured above) for about a year now - they're that much a staple of my wardrobe - and seriously: if you're a t-shirt girl, you need to own one. They're lightweight, drape perfectly (I like buying them a size or two big), and inexpensive enough that you can pick up a bunch of different colors (I own black, navy, army green, and white, and am planning on picking up a striped version this weekend).

New Color, New Care

Q. Can you post some photos of your hair color? I have a hair appointment coming up and need inspiration!

A. I went quite a bit lighter this time than I usually do; I wanted to look nice and summery for next week's trip, but was also just generally looking for something a little different. My colorist, Doug at John Sahag Workshop, usually does balayage, but this time he lightened up the base color with a mild single process (only left on for about five minutes) before adding highlights.

Juicy Couture Fall 2013 Presentation

With Gala at last night's Juicy Couture Fall 2013 "Bad Reputation" presentation.

This Fashion Week, my plan is to pick a couple of days to spend in the city and attend whatever shows happen to fall on those days rather than trucking back and forth all week long...but I couldn't miss this party. Champagne, chocolate-covered popcorn, Juicy Couture clothing, and a chance to catch up with friends I don't get to see as much these days made for a pretty excellent evening.

The collection, inspired by icons such as Kate Moss, Joan Jett, Marianne Faithfull and the feminist Russian punk band Pussy Riot, features an eclectic mix of rocker-chick pieces like skin-tight coated denim (my favorite piece was the iridescent pair pictured above), plenty of animal print, preppy standards like tweed jackets and patterned blazers, and a couple of sweet 70's-style flowery dresses.
