My Looks

Now And Later

Over the past couple of days I've been scrolling back through my pregnancy style posts (both from this year and from 2011), and while I think I dressed pretty differently for Take 1 and Take 2 mostly because my style has changed a bit over the past couple of years, one thing was consistent: I never, ever wanted to not look (and feel) like myself. I love baby-doll maxi dresses and wrap dresses and other similarly traditional "maternity" cuts when I see them on other expecting women…but on me? I just don't feel quite right unless I'm wearing something that I'd totally wear whether waiting-on-a-baby or not, so what I gravitate towards are the same slouchy tops and skinny bottoms that form the basis of my "regular" wardrobe.

Take, for example, this outfit. While it works for late-third-trimester (less than three weeks to go!), it's still something I can easily see myself wearing two months from now. Even though those jeans are technically maternity jeans, complete with Secret Fit Belly (which is the BEST)…I can virtually promise that you'll see them post-birth, because I am obsessed.

Obsessed.

Tiny Clutches And Silk Blouses And More Things With A Limited Lifespan

(Kendrick says I look like a safari hunter here. I say safari hunters don't wear stilettos.)

Around this point in the pregnancy when I was expecting Indy, I put up a post in which I was wearing snakeskin pants (that didn't zipper, but whatever, that's what rubber bands and long tops are for) and wrote about how weird it was that I was in the mood for snakeskin-pant-wearing at 8,352,592 months pregnant, but hey: great.

I wouldn't have thought I'd be in the mood for heels and tiny clutches at this particular point either, but I am, so hey: great.

Playing Hooky

These photos were taken a couple of months ago, in preparation for an event I hosted at the Crocs flagship store (if you visit any of their U.S. locations, you should see a couple on the in-store displays), and I just realized that I completely forgot to post them prior to our departure.

This spot in our town is so pretty: it's a little brook that runs adjacent to the lakes near our house, and there are always dads and sons fishing along the banks. On this particular day, Kendrick had just gotten out of school for the summer and it was terribly hot and humid (you can tell by…my hair), and Indy still had another couple of hours of camp, so we decided to play some grownup hooky and go see X-Men: Days Of Future Past all by ourselves.

Which taught us two things: 1) X-Men movies are so, so good (and this particular one happens to include what I think might be one of the very best scenes of all time, starring that guy from American Horror Story who I have an inappropriate crush on - because I think he may be, like, twenty - and Jim Croce's Time In A Bottle); 2) the occasional Mom and Dad hooky moment is good for the soul.

Go Voyaging (And A Giveaway)

Our summer getaways this year are simple – a trip to the Santa Cruz boardwalk, a drive into San Francisco to visit friends for brunch, an afternoon exploring the redwoods in Marin – and so is my summer travel wardrobe. I want to fuss around with what I’m wearing on weekends even less than I want to fuss around with it in my daily life (which is not at all), so I've been keeping what I’m wearing as lightweight and easy as possible, and then just dressing it up with accessories. A loose-fitting top and denim cutoffs with a spectacular bracelet; a flowy dress with animal-print sandals and a bunch of rings; a bathing suit with a dramatic necklace.

If you're traveling a lot this summer, placing the focus on your accessories is an excellent packing strategy: a cute pair of earrings takes up a whole lot less space than (another) pair of sandals, which means that you save lots and lots of space in Ye Olde Luggage.
