Bring Your Waves Out Of Hibernation

What I brought home from Florida: a very mild tan (I managed to not get sunburned for perhaps the first time in my life, which meant that I hid out under an umbrella a lot and also managed to not get that tan, but I suppose that's good too), a lion-shaped pool toy, some phenomenal chocolate-coconut things, and a renewed appreciation for completely (or…ok…mostly) au naturale hair.

Us on spring break.

See? That’s how I wore it most days that we were there: loose and curly and styling-tool free. And I had so much fun experimenting with different ways to wear my crazy waves while on vacation (pinned up! with a silk scarf! side-braided!) that I decided I wanted to take them home with me. Not for all the time – I still obviously love my curling iron – but an easier, more natural look is a fun new option to have in my repertoire for spring.

How-To: Electric Pink Eye Shadow

Pink eyeshadow has historically been filed under the heading of Things I Will Probably Never Wear In This Lifetime. I just didn't get it: wouldn't it make you (or at least me: a fair-skinned blonde) look…sick? Or at the very least, kind of like an alien?

And I'll be honest: when Urban Decay asked me to help them launch their new Electric Palette, I was nervous. I don't tend to wear bright eyeshadow a whole lot, and I also don't apply makeup like a makeup artist; I apply it the way a real person does, and I wear it in the real world alongside other real people (as opposed to on sets, alongside models, or at…I don't know, raves).

I wanted to create a look that was bold, but also something I'd actually wear.

Fuzzy Wuzzy Was A Chameleon

Kendrick thinks that what happens to my hair in the presence of humidity is really funny.

So much so that he had me pose for a photo while pretending that I was in a 1980s Mentos ad.

It's true: I turn into a lioness in the presence of even a single atom of moisture; always have. In years past, the fluffball on top of my head has made me nuts; nowadays...less so. And this is partially because I really do try to keep my hair in good condition these days (because healthy hair = less frizzy hair), but also because of motherhood.

Quick Trick: Hide Your Growing-Out Bangs

I love my bangs.

I also don't want to deal with them anymore.

I like the way they look when they're blown-out and the perfect length (that's them hanging out with me in a Vegas elevator last spring), but the reality is that a) I do not have time or patience to trim my bangs nearly as often as I should; and b) the second there is even a single molecule of moisture in the air, they head every direction except for the way that I would like them to.

How To: Keep Your Hair Tangle-Free

For this month's hair tutorial video, I thought I'd answer a reader question on how to keep your hair tangle-free when you're constantly twisting it into an updo to keep it out of your face (and your child's grip).

P.S. Kendrick recorded the instrumentals for the background music, which I think is cool. (Virgil contributed his own efforts to the soundtrack, as well.)

P.P.S. Speaking of hair, I would like to dye my hair this color.
