I recently discovered Martha Stewart’s Homekeeping Checklists, which have helped me a great deal in terms of organizing the household chores.
Here’s Martha’s checklist for 6 Things To Do Every Day:
- Make the bed (“A crisply made bed makes the whole room seem more orderly”)
- Manage clutter (“Whenever you leave a room, take a quick look around for anything that isn’t where it should be”)
I know you’ve been on the edge of your seat about this, but please, take a deep sigh of relief…The Glasses have been found. Turning your couch cushions over yields miraculous results.
They’re Kador Occhialeria, BTW, for those of you who have written me to ask what brand they are.
Above, they’re pictured on George, who was a gift from Kendrick before he left on tour for two months. Yes, I’m 28, and yes, I begged for this stuffed animal - it’s sort of like an enormous body pillow that wraps around you and hugs you back, and is quite wonderful on cold nights when your husband is in Minneapolis (or wherever).
Kendrick bought it at Domus around Christmastime; I stopped in the store recently and didn’t see any in stock, but they’re a popular Xmas item and I imagine they’ll be getting more in soon.
Thanks to reader Elizabeth for this recipe for Grilled Chicken and Onion Pitas with Tandoori Tomato Jam and Cilantro Creme. Like I said, Indian food is not something I’ve ever tried to make, but I read this recipe to Kendrick and…well…let’s just say that the future of my marriage may rest on my ability to create these things.
My eyesight has been gradually deteriorating over the years. I got my first pair of glasses when I was in fourth grade, and never wore them. I got my first pair of contacts when I was a junior in college, and never wore them (well, I wore them once, on a night when I went out with Vanessa and Liz. Of course I fell asleep with my contacts still in, and had to quite literally peel them off of my eyeballs the following morning. That pretty much killed any possibility of me ever touching contacts again). Then, about two years ago, I found a pair of glasses I love at a boutique in Connecticut (the big, round tortoiseshell ones you might have seen me wearing around these parts).
My eyesight continues to worsen; I am no longer able to type or watch TV without my glasses attached to my head. And now it appears that I’ve lost my favorite glasses somewhere in our vast manse, which is problematic when you stare at a computer screen for hours every day, and when we are right in the middle of the season of America’s Next Top Model. I’m thinking today might be a good day to venture out in search of a new pair.
At Morgan’s birthday dinner, my friend Michelle told me that she recently purchased a pair of Ray-Bans (pictured above), popped out the glass, and replaced them with a set of prescription lenses. Like Michelle, I always seem to like the shape of sunglasses better than glasses, so I’m considering giving this a shot. Thoughts?
