Day Two of my weekend with Dad while our respective spouses are out of town.

6:30AM, aboard the Brooklyn VI in Sheepshead Bay. Dad grew up right across the street and has fond memories of fishing here with his grandfather. Despite the hour and the freezing weather, I was really looking forward to a father/daughter day on the water.

My purchase from Juan Rosado Antiques & Collectibles, in Cold Spring: a perfect-condition 1950s tablecloth for only $32! I am not a huge fan of our Formica dining room table (which came with the apartment), and think this is a perfect fix, as well as a nice alternative to the lace tablecloth our table usually sports.

(Kendrick bought me those lavender roses the other night when he got home from the studio at 3AM, just so they’d be there when I woke up. Heart flutter.)

Lucy and I at the scenic overlook just outside of Cold Spring - such a beautiful day (if a touch windy).

Other great day trips from NYC:

Chester, New Jersey. My family and I have a tradition of visiting this town every year for some Christmas shopping in the antique stores…and also to eat scones and cucumber-cream cheese sandwiches at Sally Lunn’s

Sleepy Hollow. Yes, the setting of Washington Irving’s famous story. Also a totally charming little village with some beautiful architecture.
