This chandelier mobile by Helen Ige (available in black and ivory) is not only totally striking and unusual, but is also a great option for those of you who, like me, lust after the look of a chandelier but don’t have the funds available to purchase a real one. (I also love Ige’s birds of a feather mobile.)

Why the mobile fetish? Because I love art that works its way into the landscape of your home and, unlike a picture hanging on the wall, actually changes the shape of your surroundings.

Last holiday season, Kendrick and I came across this mobile from Amazing Mobiles in the Union Square Holiday Market, and bought it as sort of a shared Christmas present to each other. It currently hangs in our office, and never fails to catch our guests’ attention. These mobiles would make a great gift for a music lover, as there are options including singer, keyboardist, and drummer.

With our finished pumpkins (both the ones we carved, and the furry kind)

All the girls. Left-to-right, my & Kendrick’s pumpkin, Julia’s pumpkin (I know, it was hard to tell which one was hers), and Stephen and Dave’s pumpkin (prize for scariest).

Julia and I hard at work.

Notice how I covered the floor with a plastic drop-cloth? This made cleanup SO much easier. You can buy one at any hardware store for just a couple of dollars.
