How-To: Get Rid Of Fruit Flies

Fruit flies gross me out so much. And since about 90% of my diet for the past year has consisted of strawberries, mangoes, and peaches, they have become way too much a part of my daily life for my liking.

I would really like them to go away. Now, please.

And like a little miracle person, my friend Morgan was there to my rescue. I take absolutely zero credit for this technique, so go ahead and send all your hugs and kisses her way.

ENTREES

Lemon Pasta With Goat Cheese & Asparagus

After I had Indy, I put up a post called "Post-Baby Pasta" in which I talked about how you can totally cook in the weeks after having a baby, so long as you're a little…open-minded about the whole thing.

And I stand by that: sometimes, throwing together a meal is just as easy (or at least almost as easy) as ordering in - you just have to be kind of un-fussy about what you make, be imaginative about using whatever you already have on hand (because let's get real: you are not "just going to run out to the store for a couple of things"), and make sure the whole deal takes no more than about ten minutes start-to-finish.

Let's call this "Post-Baby Pasta Number Two." I made it because it was 6PM and all of us were hungry, it was too late to start the takeout-ordering process, and when I looked in my refrigerator I found asparagus and goat cheese. In our cupboard, I found pasta, and pasta always makes our son happy, so there you go. It would have been better with a heartier pasta like rotini or fusilli, but what I had was spaghetti, so there you go.

Easy (But Elegant) Craft Ideas

My favorite find from our day trip to Half Moon Bay: a sort of outdoor discovery garden filled with different crafting tables. But not, like, yarn and sparkles and such…amazing things. Like giant abalone shells and air plants and blue jars and tiny squares of sheet music and twine.

And a table full of ideas for just what to do with all these amazing things, like make planters and lanterns and messages in a bottle. Crafts that I not only wanted to make…but that I wanted to keep, and display. Crafts that I think you should try out, too - and especially if you have a kid-and-adult-inclusive party, because I'm telling you: everyone will love these.

Avocado & Goat Cheese Scramble

I'm STARVING.

I spent the end of my pregnancy in a state of total non-hunger (although this may sound odd, it's actually pretty common, being as a full-term baby doesn't leave a ton of space in your body for things like food)…but now?

I want to eat ALL THE THINGS.

Mostly all the ice cream things.

DIY Easy Striped Baby Blanket

Our daughter is here. We're in the hospital and I managed to set "Crash Computer" as Order Of Business Number One (sigh), but I'll be back to business as usual in a couple of days. In the meantime, I set up a handful of posts…like this one on a project I finished just in time.

I started this blanket wayyyy back when we first announced that we were having a girl (I went for Liberty Wool #7824 Cupcake, and may have chosen #7837 Rodeo for a boy…or may have gone for Cupcake anyway, because I think it's gorgeous). Seven months is a very long time to be working on a single blanket…but I actually went for narrow needles and skinny yarn on purpose, because the thing about knitting projects is that I don't really do them to "make stuff" - I do them because I find them crazy-relaxing, and a great thing to do with your hands when you're watching TV, and am always bummed when they're done.

Anyway, I'm done. Which is good, because now I have something else to do with my hands: hold a baby.
