Secret (And Scented) Garden

With BrunchCritic Founder (and fellow wreath-wearer) Andrea Pappas

Talk about a magical night.

To celebrate the launch of several new scents from eco-luxe brand Caldrea - Basil Blue Sage, Lavender Pine, Ginger Pomelo, and Pear Blossom Agave - the rooftop at Gramercy Park was transformed into what I can only describe as a wonderland. We're talking jewelbox rooms filled with rose blossoms, lavender vines trailing from ceilings, palm trees filled with fairy lights arching overhead, and guests wandering through it all with blossom wreaths twined through their hair.

Ramshackle Glam’s Top Ten Best Ikea Finds

Such a cool idea for creating extra living room seating…and love the layered rugs.

A couple of days ago I spotted a post on Domaine Home about their editors' favorite Ikea picks, and I thought: I totally need to show you mine. Because Ikea may be the Seventh Circle Of Hell (at least with a toddler in tow), but it is also the site of some of my all-time favorite home decor finds.

Shall we?

What To Do With Your Leftover Halloween Candy? Make Snickers Magic Bars!

Want to see something really pathetic?

This is our Halloween candy bowl on Halloween night. See any kids crowded around it, happily selecting their favorite pieces? Neither do I.

See, what happened is that last year I was expecting to have no trick or treaters (because we don't live in a very trick or treating-friendly neighborhood, and also because it was raining), and didn't buy very much candy, and then at 10PM about five hundred teenagers showed up at my front door, requiring me to do a mad dash around our house in search of errant candy corn and such.

Party Hack: Lazy Lady Sangria

A suggestion for this weekend's festivities: be lazy.

So lazy.

Look, I love making sangria from scratch. Mostly I love how it tastes, but it's also fun customizing your own blends with whatever fruits are in season at the moment. But when you're talking about serving in bulk, sangria transforms from "adorable homemade touch" to "enormous pain in the butt."

Presenting: Lazy Lady Sangria.

How To Streamline Your Small Space (And A Giveaway!)

I have a long history with figuring out how to best organize a small living space. For years, we lived in a 350-square-foot apartment, before upgrading to what felt like a sprawling mansion: a 700-square-foot apartment. Now we live in a house, but it's a hundred-year-old Colonial, which means that it comes with its own space issues: teeny bedrooms, narrow hallways, and next-to-no closet space.

But something I've discovered over the years is that there are ways to make small-space living not just workable, but lovely. It's all about smart choices: looking for compact home items that pull double-duty and choosing decor elements that emphasize light and create the feeling of a wide-open space. Here’s how I’ve been adding a few easy updates to our home to make it more beautiful and more functional.
