Holiday Entertaining Hacks (Using Stuff You’ve Already Got Handy)

I'm not big on shelling out tons of money on holiday decor. I mean…that stuff can get expensive. And only gets used for, what, three weeks a year?

Nothankyou.

But for real: you totally don't have to do a massive decorating run in order to make your home look like Christmas exploded inside it. Presenting: some holiday hacks that let you get good and festive without stepping one single foot outside your door (or laying down one single cent).

Secret (And Scented) Garden

With BrunchCritic Founder (and fellow wreath-wearer) Andrea Pappas

Talk about a magical night.

To celebrate the launch of several new scents from eco-luxe brand Caldrea - Basil Blue Sage, Lavender Pine, Ginger Pomelo, and Pear Blossom Agave - the rooftop at Gramercy Park was transformed into what I can only describe as a wonderland. We're talking jewelbox rooms filled with rose blossoms, lavender vines trailing from ceilings, palm trees filled with fairy lights arching overhead, and guests wandering through it all with blossom wreaths twined through their hair.

Party Hack: Lazy Lady Sangria

A suggestion for this weekend's festivities: be lazy.

So lazy.

Look, I love making sangria from scratch. Mostly I love how it tastes, but it's also fun customizing your own blends with whatever fruits are in season at the moment. But when you're talking about serving in bulk, sangria transforms from "adorable homemade touch" to "enormous pain in the butt."

Presenting: Lazy Lady Sangria.

Summer’s End Shoe (And Meet-My-Baby) Party

Friday afternoon, I invited over a few girlfriends (all of whom have three-year-olds who are some of my son's best friends…as well as infants who I suspect are destined to be some of my daughter's best friends) to meet Goldie, drink some rose sangria (you need this recipe; it's coming up later this week), and eat cupcakes.

Because one of the benefits of being friends with a style writer is that there are generally fun products laying around to test out (drawbacks of said friendship include the fact that there is a decent chance that your feet will end up getting photographed), all the kids got to take home some new shoes to help them get outfitted for the school year. (Because moms deserve new shoes, too, my friends also went home with pairs; these were the most popular pick.)
