Top Ten Favorite Baby Boy Names

Kendrick and I started keeping a running list of our favorite names for both boys and girls in my phone from the moment we found out that we were expecting. Now that I know we're having a girl, I thought I'd share my Boy List (in no particular order, although I left my absolute favorite for last).

Mostly because talking about baby names is, for some reason, the most fun thing in the entire world.

1970s Baby Outfits And Coffee Shops

That was pretty much what our weekend was about.

I spent Saturday - which I hear was beautiful, but did not actually see for myself - sitting in this very spot in my pajamas while my son and husband adventured around at aquariums and grocery stores, working on a couple of hugely exciting writing projects I'll be able to announce in just a few weeks.

Sunday we decided to head into the city because Indy is pretty much obsessed with my parents' cats and was desperate to see them. Fine by me: you know what's in the city?

Presenting: The Big Boy Bed

There is a time to say goodbye to everything, and last weekend it was time to say goodbye to the crib. I held off for a little longer than we probably should have mostly because something about this made me so emotional: I remember, weeks before our son arrived, Kendrick and I standing over the empty crib and staring down at the mattress and just not being able to believe that very soon there'd be a person (albeit a very tiny one) right there in the middle of it all.

And now he's growing up and taking steps towards independence, and it's exciting and I love it, and it also makes me...not sad, just...

you know.

All The Pretty Dresses

Over the past several days a few friends and family members have asked me what about having a girl I'm most excited about. And I think the answer they were expecting was probably something along the lines of OMG THE PRETTY DRESSES. But that's not the real answer; not even close.

Before we get into that, though, we should probably take a minute to talk about those dresses, because hello they are cute. Yes, little boy clothes are fun too, and I had convinced myself that they were *almost* as fun as little girl clothes...but...ummmm...

Not really.

Over the weekend, we went on a celebratory Baby Gap trip that probably wasn't especially well-thought-out, considering that these purchases were made in preparation for an event that's a solid half-year away and considering that as a parent I know that what you actually dress your newborn in are not "outfits" but rather cozy onesies (like this and this and oh my goodness this), but come on:
