A few weeks ago, Kendrick e-introduced me to a friend of a friend from business school who had created a startup service geared at new moms, just because he thought I’d think it was interesting. The friend-of-a-friend, Nisreen, and I started chatting via email, and then got lunch when she came to the Bay Area, and when she showed me what she’d been working on I knew I’d want to share it with you guys – and now I finally can, because Bundle Club launches today (big congrats!).
What Bundle Club Is: A membership service for new mothers that helps them get the products that they need for their child when they need them.
How Bundle Club Works: Each month, members pay $25 to receive a carefully curated box of items specifically tailored to their child’s developmental stage. It’s the same business model as StitchFix (which I’ve never used personally, but have heard a lot about from friends): you have a few days to look at the products in the box, and then you send back what you don’t want and only pay for what you keep, with the monthly membership fee being applied to the purchase (so if, for example, you purchase $100 worth of items, you only end up paying $75).
Why Bundle Club Started: Nisreen and her co-founder, Annie, discovered through research that new parents, faced with the enormous amount of information available to them via the Internet, were having trouble distilling which advice to follow. In short, it’s hard for them to figure out what they really need and what’s just fluff – and so they often end up over-purchasing unnecessary items and under-purchasing essentials. The goal of Bundle Club is to send new parents exactly what they need, exactly when they need it.
What Comes In A Bundle: What you get varies month-to-month and is tailored to your child’s specific age, but here’s an example of what might come in a typical Month 1 Bundle:
- A pack of organic cotton onesies
- A lightweight swaddle blanket
- An “E-Z” swaddle (note: these are SUCH A MUST-HAVE)
- A portable changing pad
- A grooming kit
- A pack of organic burp cloths
All this is great, but honestly – the real reason I was so taken with Bundle Club is that the products that they include in the bundles – which they curate from a variety of independent artisans – are just super, crazy adorable. The burp cloths (below)! So cute. And if you want to get a new mother something special, a one-month membership makes a really unique, lovely gift. (And to clarify, none of these products were given to me gratis; I just asked the founders if I could photograph the newborn set because I thought it was so sweet.)
The first boxes will ship in November, but you can sign up now to become a founding member.
