Q. Hi Jordan!
I have a wedding in June of a very close family friend that I am super excited about. I’m looking for something that’s a similar silhouette to the Back View Dress from Anthropologie (which unfortunately is sold out in my size). I’m open to prints, solids, anything flattering to the stomach area, drapey, and with that bohemian edge (again, why you seemed like the perfect person to ask about this). My budget is $150-200.
Thank you! And a huge congrats on the baby!
Clare
A. Hey Clare!
Wow, the Back View dress is gorgeous. Anthro is killing it lately.
That dramatic shape is called a “kimono dress,” and it’s both comfortable and glamorous (you’re right that I personally adore this look). It can run the risk of looking quite casual, but you can dress it up with accessories (think big gold jewelry and heels as high as you dare). That said, I had some trouble finding wedding-appropriate ones in your price range, because with such an arguably casual shape I feel like you have to have nice fabric that drapes well – alas, my favorites are all in the $350 range (you can see them at the bottom of this page).
But! I did find a few. Here are some similar styles that I think you’ll like (only the first is kimono-style, but all three have the bohemian edge you’re looking for):
ASOS Midi Dress with Large Floral Print ($92.33); Trina Turk Cactus Flower Dress ($198; really dress this one up with accessories, and maybe a gold belt for more shape); Patterson J. Kincaid Crown Floral Imperial Dress ($158)
And here are three that are a bit too casual for a wedding, but that you might like for another occasion (I’d replace the belt on the first and third ones with something gold to make them nighttime-appropriate, and would dress up the second with a great updo and lots of striking jewelry):
Testament Belted Dress ($121); TopShop Orange Bronze Scatter Kimono Dress ($116); Serpent Charmer Wrap Dress ($169.95)
And three more that are a bit more expensive, but are too gorgeous not to show you (and who knows; maybe they’ll go on sale before the wedding rolls around):
Foley & Corinna Knotted Floral Tunic ($340; not as mini as it looks in this shot; that model is talllll); Juicy Couture Pleated Brushstroke Dress ($378); Halston Heritage Caftan Cape Dress ($345; totally my favorite)
Hope you like these! Let me know what you end up going with, and have fun at the wedding!
J
