Summer Must: Glam Glassware (That Even I Can’t Break)

I have a long-standing love affair with unbreakable tableware.

In fact, one of my very first posts ever was about my adoration of Target’s acrylic peony glasses, and I’ve since written about artery-saving stemware for The Gloss and chatted about how to do melamine plates up DIY-style.

Summer Must: Outdoor Glassware (That Even I Can't Break)

Q Squared Old Fashioned Decal Glass

Geo Etched Short Goblet

And man, are these shatterproof glasses ever sexy. Forget picnics and parks: I would totally put them on my for-real, indoor table in a heartbeat.

Clockwise from far left: Habitat; Pier 1; Home Decorators Collection (my favorite); MOMA Store (it’s a little tough to see, but that’s a stemless champagne glass); Q Squared; Pier 1.

And just while we’re at it:

These aren’t shatterproof, but they’re too cute for casual outdoor entertaining not to show you ($45 for a box of 12 Mason Jar Sippers).

Stylin’ Picnic Gear

Now, of course there’s something to be said for an old sheet, a deli sandwich, and a couple of issues of Star - that’s the kind of picnic I usually end up doing, anyway – but sometimes you want to do something a little more elegant with your Saturday.

So this is how you do an afternoon in the park, plus pizzazz.

Pretty Flatware Picks

Q. Hi Jordan,

I am shopping for new spoons/forks/knives for my apartment. I want a set with some character, but nothing too crazy. What are your favorite flatware styles?

- Amy

A. Really, a lot depends on the look of your plates, but you can’t go wrong with simple styles infused with a unique detail or two.

I love gold sets lately (like this one), but that’s quite a statement and not for everyone, so here are some more favorites that are traditional with a little twist:

Clockwise from top left: Lenox Flatware ($190/65-piece set); Kate Spade Abbington ($70/5-piece set); Williams-Sonoma Laguiole ($89/5-piece set); Kate Spade Belle Boulevard ($70/5-piece set)

And here’s a romantic, vintage look (Pottery Barn Maxfield, $99/5-piece set), if that’s more your style:

And finally, if all of these are too pricey, try Ikea. They’re not going to last you a lifetime, but they have lots of cute, extremely well-priced sets; I particularly like the Rustik ($30/20-piece set) for a retro country look:

Peony Drinkware

You know I love me some peonies, and I would absolutely put this acrylic Peony Drinkware from Target on my dinner table at night. I’ve already shattered about 80% of my wedding stemware, and I’m thinking it might be time to move onto something with all of the style at a fraction of the price.
