Fab new shades

DIY Bracelet

En route to Nanny Ruth’s 90th Birthday Party, Take 2, at the Royal Canadian Legion, and feeling quite fabulous in my Ebay-sourced shades (Tom Ford Anouk style, which I’ve been obsessing over for months and finally found for $75, and DIY bracelet, which I made Sunday morning during breakfast.

Nanny Ruth’s glasses (love)

Me, Nanny & Tina

The festivities at Nanny Ruth’s 90th Birthday Party, Take 2 included a rousing rendition of “When the Saints Go Marching In,” more tea sandwiches than you could shake a stick at, and beaucoup rye and ginger (that would be for me).

John Black Woodwork

Roughstock Western Leather Work

Bright and early on Saturday morning, Joanne, Tina, Mom and I went to the Farmer’s Market, where I tried a maple cream in a cone (bad) and boiled icing (good good good).

Some of my favorite finds:
- This enormous honeycomb-like thing, which looks like the inside of a Crunchie and would be spectacular dipped in melted chocolate (from Robertson’s Candy, 902-895-1708)

- Gorgeous, gorgeous cutting boards and cheese boards from John Black Woodwork (my favorite is the one with the yellow stripe in the foreground).

- This vintage-y, rough-and-tumble purse from RoughStock Western Tack & Leather Work ($90, and worth every penny). Also love their wallets (great guy gifts).

Bought the bag!

My MK Olsen look (not bought)

My favorite finds at Second Edition Resale Boutique in Moncton: a Thomas Wylde purse adorned with a big, metal-studded skull (this kind of thing wouldn’t usually be my style, but is when it’s worn, sexy, and costs $20, I make exceptions) and a long, sparkly, way-too-big-for-me dress that left my entire family with their mouths hanging open – and not in a good way…so back on the rack it went.

Nanny’s 90th (Take 1)

Nanny Ruth’s 90th Birthday Party (Take 1) was truly wonderful. Really, how could an event involving autoharps, karaoke and a cake that looks like that be anything less than spectacular?

With my lovely cousin (actually my cousin’s fiance’s daughter, but close enough) Haylie at Nanny Ruth’s 90th Birthday Party #1 (#2 is on Sunday, at the Royal Canadian Legion). When you’re 90, you get as many parties as your heart desires. And carrot cake!

I painted my own!

Trudy says she thinks it means “Patience” and “Forward Motion.” I think it means “Opening Your Heart.”

When it comes to symbols (and any art, really), I think it’s less important to consider what the artist’s intentions were than what the piece means to you. When I do tarot card readings for myself, for example, I consider what the cards are “supposed” to mean, sure, but I also look at the images on the card and think about what emotions they stir up in me, and incorporate both approaches into my final interpretation.

So tell me…what does this symbol mean to you
