Easy Like Sunday Morning

Well…

maybe not “easy”, exactly.

Because most Sunday mornings, what I look like is this (give or take some whiskers):

That’s easy.

This Sunday morning, though, we headed over to my aunt’s place to introduce the baby to a bunch of relatives whom he hadn’t gotten the chance to meet yet, so I thought I’d, you know…put on for-real clothing. But since it was early in the day, and, like I said, Sunday, I tried to strike a balance between comfortable and just the tiniest bit elegant, with a loose knit sweater, tailored jeans, and minimal (for me) accessories.

I love this silhouette lately, with the slightly high-waisted jeans and bloused-out top. It seems so much pulled-together than my usual low-riding look, and as a bonus there’s no risk of exposing anything untoward when you lean over (yikes). I’ve always shied away from tailored denim, because I usually feel uncomfortable in it, but if you pick a pair with a bit of stretch and not too much structure it’s actually quite cozy. This pair, for example, is totally lounge-around-the-house-worthy.

Similarly, I’ve generally avoided tucked-in tops in the past mostly because I don’t like anything clingy on my top half, but if you go for a blousy sweater made with a light fabric, you get all the relaxed feel of the tent-y blouses I usually favor, but with a bit more…polish.

That’s what I felt like on Sunday.

Polished.

Like…well, like a 30-year-old mom, as opposed to a vaguely irresponsible twentysomething. Not that there’s anything wrong with dressing like the latter – but I guess the kind of clothing that I feel good is evolving right along with every single other aspect of my life.

It’s nice.

(And besides, I’m still wearing a visible bra and offensively high leopard-print wedges, so it’s not like we need to call the Conservative Police or anything. Maybe later.)

As an aside, I’ve finally figured out how to make a half-up hairdo look finished rather than scraggly. The trick is this: lift up the very top layer that you’re pulling back, and tease it just a bit before securing with an elastic. It works miracles.

On me: Theonne sweater, DKNY necklace, vintage belt, earrings c/o Shirley Be Mine, Paige Denim jeans, Aldo Calcagni platforms, DIY bracelet, purse c/o Monica Chiang.

Hi Jordan- cute outfit!  Quick question, how do you wear a necklace like that without the baby pulling on it?  I so don’t mean for that to sound judgemental, it is honest curiousity!  I have been shying away from necklaces and earrings because I am afraid of baby damage.  I am still working on the balance of comfortable and stylish, so I appreciate seeing all of your posts!

    no, good question!

he’s not really reaching for/pulling on stuff all that much yet – I have had to put away my big hoop earrings for the time being more because of me-damage than baby-damage, but that necklace in particular rests below where he is when I’m holding him at this point. i’m sure i’ll have to retire certain pieces at least for awhile as time goes on, but even so, i’ll probably be likely to continue trying to wear my fun jewelry when i’m out (as opposed to hanging around the house), at least. we’ll see :)

I love the photography in this post. What kind of camera do you for these pictures and the rooftop fashion shots? Also, do you use a self timer or do you have a photographer?

thanks so much! it’s a canon t1i – i usually use a self-timer for the rooftop shots, but my husband took these photos the other morning. the lens we used here is a 50mm.
