Easy Cutoffs Update

Ever since I wrote this style post I’ve been thinking about adding leather fringe to one of my many pairs of cutoffs (I wear almost nothing else all summer long).

So the other day I went to M&J Trimming to pick some up…

but instead…

I found FEATHERS.

Done.

Before.

All you need: half a yard of the desired trim (you actually need less – unless you want to do the back pockets, too, in which case you need a bit more – but half a yard is the minimum most trimming stores will sell to you) and some E6000 Medium-Viscocity Adhesive.

Apply a thin layer directly onto the denim and lay your trim over the top. Don’t use too much adhesive, or things will get messy fast.

(I tucked paper towels into the pockets so that they wouldn’t stick together in case of overflow/dripping.)

After.

And then I wore them all weekend long.

**Note: You cannot throw these things in the washing machine, obviously, but they can be washed – carefully – by hand. If you’re using a trim as delicate as feathers, I’d also recommend picking up some extra so you can replace it when it starts to look dingy – the entire process really takes only about five minutes, so a little upkeep shouldn’t be a problem.

Since summer is a hot, sweaty season, what about alternative methods for attaching the feathers so they can be washed normally? Velcro, snap/studded buttons, etc. Might take a bit longer to implement but you’ll be able to keep your look for longer and not have to hand wash. Put the time in up front so you can save time in the future, ya know?

You mean so that they can be removed every time you need to wash them? What a good idea! Velcro strips would work well. The only problem for me is that if I left feather strips laying around for even five seconds I would either lose them or lose them to the dogs.
