Quantcast

Caribbean Style / Purple Sunset

Most nights in the Caymans, I wore tank tops. Shorts. Mayyyybe shoes. We were staying in the much more relaxed half of the island, the East End, which is more about diving and Caybrews than diamonds and caviar.

But one night we decided to head over to Hemingway’s By The Sea, the restaurant at the Hyatt hotel down on Seven Mile Beach (the swim-up bar, which you can see behind me, was featured in the movie The Firm). And so I thought I’d fancy it up just a bit with a dress that I originally purchased to wear to Morgan’s wedding (with a slip underneath), but which works even better in a tropical locale, as its length makes it a bit iffy without a beach in close proximity.

The heels were a pretty fantastic buy: just $19 on the sale rack at Steve Madden. They’re high enough to be sexy with a mini, but not so high that I’d go catapulting tail-over-toes at the first sign of a grain of sand. (You could also swap these out for some metallic flats if minis and heels aren’t your thing.)

Above, my beloved Henri Bendel bangles and Essie Secret Stash.

Hi Jordan! I love your blog–thanks for entertaining me at work :)

Where did you and your husband stay while vacationing in the Cayman’s? My fiance and I are getting married in August and trying to find a beautiful, fun, relaxing resort in the Caribbean. Any suggestions? Did you love the place you stayed? Or would you suggest somewhere else? Thanks for any help you can provide!!

    Hey Ashley!

We stayed at Morritt’s Tortuga, which is on the East End. The East End is less expensive, but much quieter than the 7 Mile Beach area – it’s mostly for people who are into diving. If you go for the East End, I’d actually stay at the Reef (next door to Morritt’s) – the food is a bit better, they have a nice complimentary continental breakfast, and the scene is a bit more lively. Definitely rent a car, though, so you can go to places like Rum Point and Cemetery Reef.
If you want a bit more nightlife in close proximity, stay down by 7 Mile Beach. The Hyatt is gorgeous, but definitely on the expensive side.
Would 100% recommend Grand Cayman as a honeymoon spot – it’s fun, romantic, and stunningly beautiful. If you decide to go, email me and I’ll send you some more what-to-do recommendations! Other places you might enjoy: Cozumel (in Mexico, but also very fun and beautiful, and a bit less expensive) & St. John.
