Finally…

…the weather has turned. Early evening drinks at outdoor cafes (or semi-outdoors, as is the case at Les Halles) are my absolute favorite part of summer.

Speaking of outdoor drinks, I’m dying to go to Water Taxi Beach in Long Island City this summer (trucked-in sand, picnic tables overlooking the East River, PBR tallboys and a grill). Is it as great as it sounds?

I have heard mixed things about the LIC beach. The main comment is that there are no umbrellas so you end up getting a little bit fried. That said, I plan on pressuring my friend that lives right over there to try it out anyways. I swear b/c it's near the water it's a few degrees cooler and much more pleasant in the summer anyways. I would totally meet up with you if you ever wanted. You sound a gal after my own heart with the love of outdoor summer beers and grilling.

The frying actually sounds good to me – I am Casper-ish and could use a little color :)

I'd also recommend trying the on on Governor's Island. It's a bit of a trek, but the views of the city are amazing and you can rent bikes to tour the island or just walk around

If you're writing about Water Taxi Beach 100 years late, a) don't blog about it, and b) stay in midtown. It's very much about a music scene which clearly you have never been part of.

    a) you are rude and b) her husband is a musician so she is no stranger to the scene. talk about 100 years late.

I've never been to Water Taxi Beach, but I do second the Governor's Island “beach”! It's fantastic. We went last year for the jazz age lawn party (which is beyond cool if you haven't been…everyone gets dolled up in 1920s clothing and drinks champagne cocktails. There is a pie contest that I competed in last year. And they have a live big band and dancing.) Anyway, but the beach part is nice and I love the ferry ride over; they have burgers and dogs and fries and beers. It's just a great day and lovely in the sun! I think they also have random concerts and things there.
