(Very Poorly Shot) Weekend Snapshots

I broke my camera last weekend, in Cold Spring (fortunately, it was my old travel one, not my fancy new one). And while I’ve since picked up a new little guy that fits in my purse…

I left the house on Saturday morning without remembering to put in the memory card.

Arrr.

Which is why this series of Weekend Snapshots features a ton of crappy iPhone photos (and one snagged from a restaurant website, canyouguesswhichone?).

On Saturday morning we decided to go somewhere different for brunch, so we headed out to Smith Street in search of a new spot. I Twitter-sourced, and a few of you recommended Char No. 4. We’d already passed the place and rejected it – from the outside it looks like a dingy bar – but your recommendations sent us heading back…and WOW. Total foodie paradise. And a semi-outdoor area in the back!

The house-made pickles are so good that I had to order a side of them. In the Actual Food Category, our favorite was the Char No. 4 Biscuits Benedict with house-smoked ham, poached eggs, and bacon gravy.

We stopped into Gowanus Yacht Club (just opened for the season), where Kendrick had the “2 Cheap Beers for $5” option. I had Italian Ices (Tropical Rainbow) from Uncle Louie G’s. (Yeah, we read The Onion in Gowanus Yacht Club while drinking PBRs and wearing vests and plaid. I know.)

And then…AND THEN…

We went to F.A.O. Schwartz. Not to buy – god, no, that place is expensive beyond all reason – but to look.

We actually came quite close to picking up a pair of Lucy-and-Virgil Ugly Dolls.

We were both pretty excited about spotting Indiana.

(Kendrick had a plan.)

We wandered through the boys’ toys section just to see what we were in for. I was skeptical. Kendrick was thrilled.

On Sunday, the new camera came along with me on my drive to Newburgh and Bear Mountain to celebrate Mother’s Day.

Ahhh, that’s better.

Happy Mother’s Day, Mom!!! Love you so much.
