Two Doggie Must-Haves

That is a screenshot of Lucy, victoriously snatching her brand-new Skinneez toy (a long, floppy thing with a squeaker at each end and no stuffing for them to pull out, yay) from Virgil, who is following in hot pursuit. Good girl, Luce! (Winning a battle is a rare event for her.)

I’ve actually never seen both dogs freak out this completely over the same toy. We bought them their first Skinneez – a raccoon, I think – a couple of weeks ago, and it’s been madness ever since, so yesterday I went back to the store to get them another. But of course both of them just want whichever one the other has. No sharing whatsoever.

And while this may look like a medieval torture device, it is actually the second absolute must-have that I picked up for them recently: a JW Pet Company Dematting Rake. Virgil has incredibly thick hair that is almost impossible to keep from matting, even with daily brushing…and we’ve been at a bit of a loss, because, as we all know, the kid does not enjoy being shaved. So far, none of the brushes I’ve tried have been able to do the trick, but this dematting rake is a mini miracle: you move it upwards from the skin (blades pointing away from the dog) and it gently and painlessly cuts through the tangles.

those skinneez toys are great, especially for dogs who like to rip out stuffing :) plus they’re sorta oddly, floppishly cute!

agree: they’re just adorable. and super soft (at least for the first five minutes after purchase…until the salivating starts).

AAHH! Chai has a weasel version of that toy and it is his FAVORITE (among MANY toys. [spoiled.]) It’s cute and disturbing to see him dragging it around because it totally looks like a small animal corpse. :D

Love the skinneez! My pup has one, too.

As far as fur… have you tried the furminator? It’s a dog brush meant to get rid of all their hair that sheds all over everything… but since it pulls out so much hair (it doesn’t hurt them, though) their coats end up sleek and it might help with the knots.

You’ve got to try naturally-shed antlers if you have dogs who like to chew. My pug mix is a nyla bone freak and I’ve transitioned her to all natural marrow-filled antlers and she LOVES them. Just don’t buy the bagged ones – find whole pieces at a good dog store. I’m going to pick a skinneez for her soon!
