Question For You

I’m looking for a great (and relatively inexpensive) new eye cream to try. In the past, I’ve tried – and liked – Oil of Olay, Votre Vu and ROC, but I’d love to hear which ones you recommend!

    i live and die by 'Anew Ultimate' by Avon. It's a cream (for morning and night) and then an 'Elixir' for extra nighttime moisture – all in one cute little container. I actually LOOK FORWARD to applying my eyecream because not only does it work great but it's pretty darn fun to apply the cream AND elixir at night!

    Burts Bees. I use the carrot day creme for my face and my eyes. Beware — if you don't like the smell, you may hate the creme. :)

    i love vegetable scents in beauty products – one of my favorite scents ever is Roger & Gallet Lettuce body wash.

    then you may like this creme. it smells a little like carrot cake!

    You should try Garnier Nutritioniste Skin Renew Anti-Fatigue Eye Cream. I used to use Bobbi Brown and Laura Mercier eye cream but this stuff seems to do the same thing and it's $12 vs. $50.

    Trick – but a second tube and leave it in the fridge. It feels awesome on puffy eyes after a night of indulging in too many glasses of wine.

    I'm obsessed with eye creams because I have super sensitive skin and a tendency for dark circles (since childhood!). One thing I will avoid is retinol; I've learned the hard way that it dries out the area and even makes eyebrow waxing super painful (losing a layer of skin above my eyes wasn't fun! Yikes).

    I have used and like:
    - Clinique All About Eyes (my current one; not the cheapest, about $25, but you only need a little bit and it lasts a long time);
    - L'Occitane Immortelle Eye Balm (love it but it's a little bit more, about $30);
    - I also love Clarins so once in a while I'll splurge for their eye Gel which is great for puffy eyes/dark circles. From Clarins I also have their moisturizing eye mask, which I use a couple of times a month. I also like their “eye revive beauty flash” — I got a sample recently and really liked it. It's an “emergency” eye reviver. It's been a life saver when I haven't slept much and need to look refreshed in the morning. It “pumps” up the area instantly. It's expensive though (about $45 I think).

    Jordan dearest, You might want to try Evan Healy's products. Read what she has to say about her reverence for the organ that is our skin @ evanhealy.com. Her rosehip treatment will do miracles; miracles, I say! Sold @ whole foods, about $50 for serum & eye cream.

    (Side note: Would <3 it if you partnered w/her in some way. She is so worthy! Her products are the best (and I've done La Mer, Kinerase, and dozens of others).

    BareMinerals eyecream is actually affordable and fantastic. Tightens skin and reduces puffiness and doesnt break the bank.

  • jordanreid

    grazie for the rec; i'll try to get in touch with her!

    do you like bare minerals generally? i've tried the “buff-on” foundation, and while i thought it was awesome initially…i dunno. it seems really time-intensive for the results.

    Actually – I do like bare minerals. I've tried TONS of different foundations and during the winter I usually prefer a cream-based foundation for extra moisture. My two favorites are Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer and Benefit You Rebel tinted moisturizer. Both are light, provide a bit of coverage and give a little color too. I do find though that they are easier to screw up – as in smudging, unevenness, staining clothes, etc. I put off trying/buying BM for a long time, mainly because of the time-factor as you mentioned and the cost ($60 for the starter kit) but I eventually caved and bought it. I've found that if I only use the foundation (not the sheer finishing powder or the bronzer) its usually faster than applying cream foundation – and UNSCREWUPABLE. Always, always looks flawless and a REAL difference in evenness of my skin tone. I'm a total convert now. And the bronzer brush that comes with the starter kit works GREAT with my NARS bronzer which I love. You don't really need to do the whole 3-step getup to use it – just use the foundation powder. It lasts a long time too!!

    my friend parisa says the same thing! maybe i'm just hoping for more coverage than BM provides. it really does give you very natural coverage; probably perfect for those without blemish-y skin (which I currently have thanks to some hormonal fluctuations courtesy of my birth control screw-up a few weeks ago).
    i am so in agreement re: laura mercier tinted moisturizer – it's a perfect summer product. also in agreement re: the brushes that come with the BM starter kit – whoa fantastic.

    thank you! i love l'occitane…might have to try that one.

  • jordanreid

    ooh. great suggestion. not that i ever drink too many glasses of wine…;)

    isn't it totally fun?! i love the nighttime moisture-application ritual. seriously – it relaxes me and makes me feel like a beautifully scented bedtime goddess.
