My #1 Clean-Home Tip

See? Spring cleaning doesn’t have to be miserable. This is how Kendrick and I spent our Friday night…and we had a blast (really).

My #1 Clean-Home Tip: Every time I walk through the apartment – and I mean every time – I pick something up and return it to its rightful place. Socks under the table? Straight to the laundry basket. Random safety pin? Dropped off in the sewing box on my next pass by. Errant receipt? Into the receipts file (or the trash, depending on how responsible I’m feeling) it goes. This keeps things more or less in order, so I almost never have to do big picking-up sessions.

OK, so I do this exact same thing. My question, however, is how the HELL do I get my boyfriend to fall into this habit??? We've lived together for 3 years now, and his messiness is really my only complaint! Is Kendrick good at housekeeping? Do you guys share the majority of the “chores?” Or does one of you tend to tackle the brunt of it? Please help!

Oh, this particular habit is one that Kendrick definitely doesn't share. The aforementioned socks under the table? His. He does a lot, though – we worked out a system when we moved in where certain things are his “job” (like doing the dishes after dinner, since I usually cook). I do more, but that's because I work out of the house and it only seems fair.
Basically I'd say figure out where his bar for cleanliness is (sounds low), figure out where yours is, and then compromise so you're somewhere in the middle – a happy couple is more important than a sparkly house ;)

Good point. Next time I'll clean the refrigerator with the door closed.
    P.S. Mom? Is that you?

  • Hellooooo

But aren't you cleaning the stove here? Stove drawer?
P.S. No it's not your mom!
