These are really extremely cute.

I saw them at Macy’s on the way into Saturday’s event, and they literally stopped me in my tracks – specifically, the orange one and the light blue and denim one (not pictured).

And then I saw that they were Furla, and $248…which is a lot generally, but kind of surprisingly inexpensive for a Furla.

And they’re really extremely cute.

Let’s “Lust & Less” it!

My immediate reaction is that this is an obvious case of when you should go for the “Less” version: we’re talking about a trendy bag that’s very summer-specific; not necessarily the kind of piece you’d want to invest in.

But…but but but: I ordinarily don’t care a ton about whether my accessories are from some fancy brand or another, and yet I think what I love about this particular item is its very hi/low-ness. It’s a kitsch bag from a classic designer, and that’s what makes it so striking and unique. And despite the whole “neon jelly” thing…I think the simple shape makes it the kind of item you could break out every summer for years and never get sick of.

I think.

Going to have to give a tentative win to the “Lust” on this one.

What a crazy weekend.

First of all: Vegas! I love Vegas. Love. Yeah, it’s tacky and overwhelming and everyone (seriously, everyone, especially packs of twenty-two-year-old men in elevators carrying PBR tall boys) has their volume level turned up to “yelling” at all times, but still:

It’s just so exciting. I used to go there with girlfriends every so often when I lived in L.A., but I haven’t been back since my trip with Kendrick six (!) years ago…and I’ve certainly never done it like this, with gorgeous hotel rooms and delicious meals and being lifted into the air in glass boxes (stay with me here).

On previous trips, I also didn’t go to bed at 9PM (Friday) and 10:30PM (Saturday). But hey, I was there for work…and also, my body clock is set to “Toddler”, so that’s that. In any case, I was up with the sun both days, and somehow managed to pack what felt like a week’s worth of fun stuff into 48 hours.

Here’s why I was there in the first place: to emcee and co-host an event for INC with Camila Alves McConaughey. We started around 12:30 with a meet-and-greet lunch followed by a runway show, and then headed back to the store to announce the winner of an INC shopping spree (that’s what we’re doing above).

This shot (courtesy of Francesca, who drove out to spend Saturday night with me) is from the end of the show, moments after Camila walked.

Now let me explain what I meant by “lifted into the air in glass boxes”. See that very large, transparent structure behind us? The show started with that glass box and the runway literally elevating up out of the ground in a cloud of smoke. And in that box was a very nervous me and a DJ, and I got to walk out onto the runway yelling “HELLO LAS VEGAS!” into a microphone.

Have to say: I think that everyone should try entering a room in a cloud of smoke screaming “HELLO LAS VEGAS” at least once. It’s quite the experience.

This is how I wore them for a JC Penney shoot a few months back (that’s a Buffalo jeans pair pictured with my own t-shirt, Betsey Johnson heels, and Hannah Warner and Ippolita necklaces).

But it’s just a fact: snakeskin pants can be tricky, because seriously: that’s a whole lot of pant. Similarly to camouflage pants, the key is to keep the rest of your outfit relatively simple, and to play with the balance of tough and feminine by adding pretty extras like strappy heels, colorful clutches, and layered jewelry.

More Ideas:

- A black, white, or grey tee always looks great, but try layering on a chambray button-down; denim and snakeskin make a perfect pairing.

- If your outfit is head-to-toe neutral, add a little color with an emerald green or poppy red handbag.

- Keep your accessories relatively simple; the snakeskin is all the statement you need.

- As the weather warms up, try cuffing them to a 3/4 length and pairing them with simple flats.

- If snakeskin pants aren’t your thing, try playing with a snakeskin accessory (and go ahead and treat it as if it’s a neutral, pairing it with everything from brights to black-and-white).
