Guacamole Is Always Good

I get a lot of compliments on this guacamole recipe (served up at last night’s party)…but you want to hear a secret? It’s not that I make incredible guacamole…it’s that guacamole is always incredible. As things involving avocados usually are. Anyway.

PARTY GUACAMOLE

What you need:

4 very ripe avocados

1 smallish tomato

1 small handful fresh cilantro, chopped

1/4 onion

1/2 lemon

Salt

What you do:

1. In a large bowl, roughly mash avocados (you don’t want the texture to be too smooth).

2. Finely dice tomato (remove seeds and pulp) and onion; add to avocados and mix to combine.

3. Add chopped cilantro and squeeze in the lemon (I like a strong lemony flavor, but use less if you’re not as big a fan).

4. Add salt to taste. Done!

That looks delicious, I'd switch out the lemons for limes personally.

Great blog Jordan. I always look forward to your posts.

funny – do you read GOOP? Gwyn's recent newsletter was about guac! Take a look. She takes a really purist approach. I prefer tomatoes in mine too.

Are you still doing that French Culinary Institute class?

Yeah, my mother always uses limes in her guac, too.

I remember a couple years ago there was some huge stink when Laura Bush shared her recipe for guacamole and called for lemon instead of lime. She messed with Texas and it wasn't pretty.

(My personal twist: Add in red onion instead of white, diced jalapeño, and mango chunks. Serve with jalapeño-infused alcoholic beverage of choice. Die of happiness.)

Have you tried a little bit of sour cream in the guac? I make it basically like you do, but a dollop of sour cream makes it extra decadent, I always get compliments on it too! Maybe not as healthy though:)

I am ALL about the jalapeño (or any kind of chile)-infused cocktails! My two favorites in the city are the Pepino Picante at Rosa Mexicano and the Camptown at Fatty Crab (the latter also has cilantro and is the most incredible drink ever).

    That sounds delicious!

Had to pull out a few weeks ago :( We had a few unexpected expenses, and it didn't make financial sense. Hoping to do it at some point in the future, though.

I tend to prefer lemon, but lime is definitely the more “purist” approach :)
    Concur on the red onion!

    I don't, actually – I'll check it out.

i'm from california, so i feel like guacamole is standard for all parties! i'm actually more of a lime + guacamole than lemon. i think that gives it a better kick them the lemon does. but i pretty much follow a similar recipe!
