Five Hat Hairstyles

I’m kind of in the mood to hide out at the moment. Mostly because I’m both a) super busy and b) a little sick (laryngitis, whee), which means that I’m interested doing exactly zero in the beauty department.

Lip gloss and sunglasses and hat and Hairstyle #5 from that video up there, c’est fini.

For Those Extra-Lazy Evenings

These are so delicious.

They’re also my favorite Simple Skincare product right now, for two reasons:

1. Warmer weather means more sweat and general buildup, so they’re great additions to my purse on especially hot days (and are gentle enough to use on my son’s sweaty little self, as well).

2. After 9:30PM rolls around, I become horrifyingly lazy and need to catapult myself directly into bed.

Really: the sloth level is inexcusable. I do things like fantasize about glasses of water but then not get up for them, because the bathroom is three feet away and that’s too far. Sometimes I lie down, start paging through Us Weekly, and realize I haven’t washed my face, and even though in theory I “care”…I don’t really care. But I do want to get my makeup off (because that’s one of my rules), and having a package of these in my bedside table means that I get clean skin without any residue or dryness.

All of Simple’s wipes are great, but I especially love the original Cleansing Facial Wipes and the Radiance Cleansing Wipes (pictured above), which have mango extract to remove impurities and no alcohol, artificial perfumes or harsh chemicals (they’re even gentle enough to use around the delicate eye area, although Simple also sells Eye Makeup Remover Pads that you can keep in your bedside table right next to the cleansing wipes if you’d like to use a separate product for this purpose).

Try them; you’ll love them too, I think.

Step Away From The Scrub

My husband isn’t a big face-products guy. I’ve tried to convince him that moisturizing actually just feels really nice and doesn’t need to result in him smelling like a mango, but still: no.

Remember when I said a few weeks ago that the Simple Sense tool had recommended that I amp up my exfoliation efforts, and that my plan was to pick up Simple Skincare’s Smoothing Facial Scrub and put it right there on the sink next to my toothbrush so that I would a) remember to exfoliate in the first place and b) be able to cleanse and exfoliate in a single step? Well, I happen to already know that I like this product and that it’s a great way to get your exfoliating and cleansing done all at once. I know this because I used to have a full tube of the stuff sitting right there on my sink, all ready to go.

And my husband used the whole thing.

And then – this was even weirder – he asked me to pick up some more. Let me be clear again: this is not a face-products guy, and there he was actually requesting the presence of a face product in his life. Apparently he likes it because the little scrubber things (rice granules, if we’re being technical) don’t irritate his skin, and also help to prevent ingrown hairs after shaving.

I like it too.

Problem: solved.

Simple Sense: One Week Later

A week ago, Simple Sense told me a few things I could use some help with (including using SPF, exfoliating, and chilling out). Here’s how it’s going so far.

Test-Run: Orlane Anti-Fatigue Absolute Radiance Cream

I’ve written about Orlane’s Anti-Fatigue Absolute Radiance Cream before (here), but it deserves another mention because I just can’t get over how much I like it, and I’ve been surprised how seamlessly it made the jump from winter to spring (usually my winter must-haves start feeling too heavy once it warms up a bit).

I use mostly drugstore products in my day-to-day life, but I still try to test out different formulas whenever I can so that I’m relatively well-informed about what’s on the market…and this is one of a handful of products that I keep coming back to over and over, whenever my skin feels like it needs some extra TLC. I think it’s intended for use as a night cream (it’s super-rich), but I also like to apply it in the daytime under my regular SPF-containing moisturizer an average of once a week, just to give my skin an extra boost when I feel like it needs it.

It’s delicious. I like it so much I’m all weird and hoarder-y about it, and try to spread out my usage so that it’ll last forever.

Highly recommended.

Personalized Skincare Suggestions From Simple

I’ve been incorporating Simple Skincare products into my daily skincare routine for almost a year now, and have seen some pretty fantastic results. I rarely break out the way I used to, and my skin just feels generally calmer and more stable. But I still have skin issues – persistent dryness (that eases up a little in the summer, but is still there all year round), undereye puffiness, and fine lines (especially around my eyes).

And it’s spring, and spring is all about starting fresh, so I took a minute to revisit my skincare routine and see if I’m using the right products for my specific issues, and what (if anything) needs to be added or taken away.

Simple recently developed Simple Sense, an interactive skincare tool that considers each person’s individual skin triggers, lifestyle, diet and well-being in order to create a detailed skincare routine. I took it yesterday, and was blown away by how extensive and personalized the advice was. And it’s so nice! Seriously, when it gets to areas that you could maybe improve a little on, it basically gives you a hug and says “That’s OK, we all struggle with this stuff sometimes.” Lovely all around.

My Major Take-Home Tips:

- I tend to just splash my face with water in the morning, but the tool recommended that I add a gentle cleanser to my morning routine.

- I do try to exfoliate regularly, but sometimes…you know, life gets in the way. And I forget. Simple Sense recommended that I try to commit to once-a-week exfoliation with a gentle scrub.

- I should remember to use a moisturizer with SPF even if my plans don’t involve being outside all day long; even small amounts of exposure can damage skin.

- I need to chill out and stop being such a stressball (I’m trying, I’m trying).

The Products Recommended For Me:

Simple Eye Makeup Remover (I already use this religiously)

Simple Protecting Light Moisturizer with SPF 15 (check, will do)

Simple Radiance Cleansing Wipes (I love Simple’s cleansing wipes, and just installed a new package in my bedside table)

Simple Soothing Facial Toner (will incorporate this into my nightly routine)
