Adorable Pregnancy Announcement

Congratulations to reader Megan, who’s expecting a little one! (She gave me permission to post her adorable pregnancy announcement here.)

Another fun way to announce a pregnancy, and what I did for a couple of girlfriends whom I knew would be particularly excited about Indy and would likely be spending a lot of time with him: put together a mini-care package with a note (in this case, “Thank you (in advance) for being such a wonderful aunt…”), a little stuffed animal, and maybe a couple of other treats.

Sure, a New Aunt Care Package is a little cheeseball, but I can’t be blamed: when I put these together, I was all hopped up on hormones and practically dripping love and sunshine. And even though those hormones are long gone, I still think it’s a sweet idea. Because even if you’re a fairly chilled-out person about gestation, pregnancy can be tough on those closest to you. The fact is, your very best friends are probably going to be helping you out quite a bit over the next few months…so it’s nice to let them know how much you love and appreciate them right off the bat.

P.S. If you’re looking for creative ways to announce a pregnancy, let me just tell you: it’s a super-fun and completely bizarre thing to Google. When I first discovered I was pregnant I ran immediately to the computer and typed in “how to tell your husband you’re pregnant” (I know, it was a weird first response; I don’t know what to say about that)…and was advised by several sites to whip up some buns…place them in the oven…and then greet my husband with a plate full of buns…from the oven. And tell him that I had a bun in my oven.

No.

No. No. No.

But if you have a fun how-I-told-him/her/them story, would love to hear it!

In the almost three months between finding out we were pregnant and being able to tell friends, I thought of a million ways to do it – and googled the same thing you did but for friends.  This idea came somewhere in that search and turned out amazingly!

My best friends were all due to hang out for a weekend, the first time our whole group of friends would be together in months, and exactly at my three-month-mark.  I had my husband gather the group and say let’s take a picture – we all gathered, he had the camera, and instead of saying, “Say cheese” he said, “Lesley’s pregnant!” and just started snapping away!

It’s amazing- there’s a pic where i’m making a cheeseball face because i know what’s about to happen, there’s one with everyone making “huh?” faces, then one where two people look at me jaws dropped, and then one of us all hugging – I love the whole collection!

I had originally wanted to do this with everyone and then make an album – but that went away once some of the love and sunshine drippiness faded away…

As for how I told my husband? I came out of the bathroom at 6 AM saying HOLY #$%^. Holy *!#@.  and waving a pregnancy test in his face.  :)

I took the test on the morning of the day designated by my Dr. and because my husband leaves before I do, I was home alone. When the “+” showed up, I was in a state of suspended reality. (fyi – we had been through a year of meds and “trying” and less than a month out from my intitial appoinment at the fertility clinic)
So I texted a pic of the test to my husband asking “Does this mean what I think it means???” because that was exactly what I was thinking. The only thing was it took him HOURS to look at it… that was the longest few hours OF MY LIFE!
We decided to tell everyone at the beginning of the 2nd trimester. Luckily, this coincided with my FIL’s annual trip south. His first night in town we went to dinner at our favorite local pub and invited all of our closest family and friends to hang out. Shortly after we all arrived, we gave my FIL a gift under the guise that it made me think of him one day when I was out shopping. It was a Christmas ornament that said “grandpa” on one side and “there is silver in his hair and gold in his heart” on the other. Everyone was excited and completely taken by suprised. It was so great, my husband ended up needing a DD that night…hahaha

I loved what Tori Spelling did for her husband — put the positive pregnancy test in a watchbox and wrap it up and give it to him, like it was a present. Very simple and cute.

My one friend is a teacher and on one of her recent 11th grade quizzes, she actually had it in the answers.  It was a multiple choice, A – Z so a string of the letters were “MRSFISEXPCTNG”.  None of the kids caught it so the next quiz she brought in Baby Ruth and the multiple choice was a little easier. Q: Why is Mrs. F giving us Baby Ruth’s? A) She’s lost her mind. B) Leftover Valentine’s candy C) It’s her clever way of telling us she is having a baby!

with the 1st pregnancy, I was having severe abdominal pain and made a dr. apt. to have a check up, I went in for some tests, Dr comes back to tell us the “results”  Dr. said to husband and myself “Well, the test came back positive “, I said “for whhhhhich test?”  Dr says “Congratulations! You are pregnant!” My husband and I were beyond excited since I hadn’t even missed my period yet! My blood tests came back with “SUPER HIGH HCG levels” indicating we were expecting twins!
Then 2nd pregnancy I called him to tell him (we had been trying for 6 months) so  I couldn’t wait to tell him! , (he was golfing)…
with this pregnancy ( I just found out 3 weeks ago) I texted him a picture of the test in the morning, (he was a work.)  They were all very special moments, ones I will always remember.

How I told the grandparents for the 1st pregnancy was I put together a gift bag that had two bibs that said I Love Grandma and Grandpa. I’ve heard making him a dinner with a baby themed food menu, “baby back ribs”,”baby carrots”, etc.

I think if I tried that bun in the oven tactic when I eventually get pregnant, my husband would just think I was informing him I already ate a bun.

One of my best friends adopted a baby from Ethiopia and when they got approved for the adoption they told her parents and family at Christmas with a gift that was an ornament with a picture of an ultrasound that had been digitally altered to look like the continent of Africa.

Ha, my older sister and her husband broke the news to their friends at a party that involved some kind of portable oven (I’m fuzzy on the details). She had to say, “we have a bun in the oven” like four times before everyone got it.

I’ve never been pregnant, but my secret plan is to bring him coffee in a #1 Dad mug :)
