Pale & Graphic

On the way home from a meeting the other day, I picked up two $12 dresses at H&M – one in the size I am now, and one in the size I expect I’ll be in just a few weeks. This is basically the cardinal sin of pregnancy purchasing: all of the books say not to buy anything (especially bras) in advance, because you never know how quickly or how much your size will fluctuate…but…I couldn’t help it. $12! (They’re in stores now – the pale pink shown here, as well as a black floral and a white floral.)

I’m crazy about this dress because it reminds me a bit of that gorgeous Narciso Rodriguez that Sarah Jessica Parker wore when she was pregnant a few years back. (One little problem: I think an SJP-style tan would help this shade along enormously. I’m a bit Casper-y in the pale pink at the moment.)

As much as I love the dress, it felt a little bare for daytime, so I decided to add a striped vest, and then accentuate my tummy with a leather cord. I’m into that lately; it feels exciting and a touch glamorous, and you get lots of nice smiles from total strangers.

I’m usually a fan of ridiculously oversized sunglasses that hide 90% of my face, but I think these are quite fabulous, and veer just slightly into John Lennon territory without looking costume-y. (FYI, they also come in tortoiseshell.)

On me: H&M jersey dress, F21 vest, vintage belt, Yael platforms c/o Miz Mooz, Barneys Co-Op clutch, sunglasses c/o Juicy Couture.
