How-To: Oxfords

Q. Hi Jordan,

Question for you. How do you feel about Oxfords??? They are super “in” these days, but being a girly girl, I don’t know if I want to splurge. I am a heels girl, but hurt my foot recently and have been trying to suck it up and stay in flats whenever I can.

Thanks so much!

Olya

A. Hey Olya!

I don’t usually love oxfords either – I always feel sorta dumpy in covered-up flats – but I recently acquired a pair from Miz Mooz and have been having fun playing with them for spring. (Click here for the full post featuring the above outfit.)

I think the key with oxfords is to give a nod to the menswear-ness of it all (boyfriend blazer, nautical elements, or a striped cardigan) while sexing it up with fit and accessories. Go for either short hemlines (shorts or minidresses) or skinny jeans to keep them from looking dowdy. For accessories and hair/makeup, think feminine touches (like big bangles, hot pink lipstick or a disheveled topknot) to keep things glamorous.
