Headboard Wall Decals

These wall decals ($40-$55) are an inexpensive fix for those of us who love headboards (me), but hate their price (also me). I already have a decal above our bed, or else I’d be picking up the Nessa (pictured at left) in mint green or mustard right this very minute.

Pamela Quinzi Custom Shoes

Spotted last weekend at Modalistas Boutique in the Limelight Marketplace:

Eeeeeyiiii.

Right?!

I simply couldn’t stop staring at – or coveting – these shoes, but I figured they were either vintage or by some obscure, way-out-of-my-price-range designer. Turns out that they’re one-of-a-kind – and surprisingly affordable, given that they’re handmade – creations by Pamela Quinzi. Not only does each pair have its own design…each shoe has its own design, so you wear two completely unique works of art at once.

They range from $225-$295, but Pamela can also customize any pair of shoes that you bring her with sequins, feathers, bows, ribbons…anything. I am desperate for a pair – just picture these in the summertime paired with a simple sheath dress.

And for you brides-to-be: hello, perfect – and perfectly uncommon – wedding shoes.

Call Modalistas at (212) 359-5514 for more info.

One Blouse, Two Ways: Weekend

This jacket is one of the handful of items that I would save from the house in a fire (other shortlisted items include anything breathing, my computer, and my jewelry box). My mother bought it in the ’60s with $200 that her grandmother left her after she died, and even though it doesn’t quiiiite fit me, it’s my favorite item of clothing in the world. There’s a butterfly imprint on the left shoulder! And fringe. And a sort of tail in the back (see lower photo). And most of all: it belonged to my mom.

I rarely wear button-downs because I usually find them sort of stiff and uncomfortable, but the DVF Risi is a silk blend and very light, so there goes that problem. For the weekend, I like the blouse with enormous jewelry, casual bellbottom jeans (rips are fine…even encouraged), and a bag big enough to carry home anything I may find on my wanderings.

On me: Vintage leather jacket, Diane Vintage Collection Risi Top in Camo Small c/o DVF, Ann Taylor necklace c/o Ann Taylor, Hudson Oxford Signature boot-cut jeans, Jessica Simpson Sabina platforms in Luggage, Aleanto Collezioni bag from TJ Maxx.

Take this, and pair with these:

General Pants Brickman Suede Jacket ($269.95); Kenneth Jay Lane Enameled Statement Necklace ($225; or try this bib necklace from Forever 21 for $7.80); Hudson Flare Jeans ($198; or try the Gap’s Perfect Boot Jeans for $59.50).

Francesca’s Ginger & Apple Cold Cure

I’ve spent the past 24 hours flat on my back with a horrible cold, and finally I caved and tried ginger tea, which Francesca swears keeps her singer’s throat in fantastic shape. She just steeps a big piece of ginger cut into one inch cubes and an apple cut into slices in a big pot of boiling water for half an hour, strains, and serves.

But I’m fresh out of apples and not much in the mood to run to the store, so I just grated up a piece of ginger, put it in a thermos with some honey and lemon, let it sit for 20 minutes, and drank it as-is (shaking between sips to disperse the “pulp”). I don’t know that I’m ready to run a marathon, but everything does feel a touch clearer. So.
