Weekend Snapshots

On Friday afternoon, I got into a weekend state of mind by grabbing lunch at The Coffee Shop with Jeannine (who you may remember from this video, shot on this day). One of the things I pride myself on is being pretty punctual, but on Friday I was incredibly – bordering on horrifyingly – late to lunch. It was just one of those days: I was so spaced out that I didn’t realize I was on an express train, and then I missed my stop and ended up down by the Brooklyn Bridge (which, for those of you who don’t live in the city, is very freaking far away). And then I decided a taxi uptown would be a good idea (this is almost always a bad idea).

Anyway, lunch was lovely (go here to learn how to make my Coffee Shop-inspired breakfast burrito). Almost as lovely as Jeannine’s House of Harlow ring. Eee.

Friday evening, Dad and I headed to our favorite restaurant, Casellula, where we made the dire mistake of eating that stuff pictured at left, Monje blue cheese. I’m all about the stinky, powerful cheese…but whoa man, this was intense. We should have known something was up when the waitress appeared with two complimentary glasses of dessert wine and advised us to sip it between bites because she “wanted to make sure we had an okay experience.” It’s described as “complex” and “mouth-coating”…but what it did was turn my entire mouth numb for a full ten minutes.

Dad loved it. He’s weird.

Go here for a BetterTV video I shot at Casellula, and here for my interpretation of their to-die-for Ricotta, Lemon & Honey Crostini.

Saturday morning’s food picks – crepes at the Yorkville Creperie – made me happier. FYI, they serve pint glass-sized mimosas for just $10, if you’re ever in the neighborhood on a weekend morning.

To give Kendrick a little breathing room to record, I spent Saturday afternoon at TJ Maxx, where I discovered that I have made the leap into actual, for-real grownupdom: when faced with a choice between an adorable pair of winter boots and a new garbage can…guess what I chose?

That’s right.

I also know that Kendrick is officially an Old as well, because he seemed even more excited about the purchase than me.

Saturday’s date night outfit, of which I was quite proud: Eugenia Kim knit headband, Talbots cape, Katherine Kwei bag (sample generously provided by designer), Vintage Revolution skinny jean leggings, Miz Mooz Janessa Button Boots.

We saw 127 Hours. It was mind-blowing. Go!

On Sunday, I got to meet a whole bunch of Internet buddies at Holly’s birthday brunch. We went to Petite Abeille, which I only know as the place where I sought refuge during my lunch break at Jury Duty, but which is much more fun when you’re not heading back to a courthouse afterwards.

Above, clockwise from left: Holly, me, Kendrick, Teresa, Alex, and Eliot.

I ordered mac ‘n’ cheese with ham and gruyere. It was amazing, but not quite as amazing as Kendrick’s “Hangover Sandwich”: two burger patties, fries, and onions on a Challah baguette. The latter was also pretty messy and unattractive, though, so: no picture.

I was completely in love with Holly’s outfit, but most off all her vintage…I want to say this is called a “fascinator”. Is that right? I could never pull this off, but it was so beautiful on her.

And finally, the weekend came to a close with a family dinner: Mom and Dad came over for Chicken Cacciatore and a little Unscrewupable Apple Pie.

Whew. 🙂
