Monday / Yoga-Ing & Tattoo Concealing

If I’m slightly more MIA this week than usual, please forgive: I’m running all over town shooting a series of segments for StriVectin (follow me on Twitter HERE).

I spent the greater part of Monday at YogaWorks, where Jeannine from BeautySweetSpot and I talked mind/body rejuvenation. Also, I managed to hold a plank position for pretty much forever while they got the shot just right. Yee! Also: ow.

The first order of business, however, was covering Ye Olde Tats. Sigh. I continue to love my tattoos, but sometimes I rue the day when 21-year-old me decided that it was a good idea to place an enormous, permanent design on my bicep.

After the tattoo-concealing process came to a close (thank you, Deb!), Jeannine and I made our way over to our mats for some candlelit Vinyasa.

I also picked up a little DIY candleholder tip: coffee cup lids are the perfect size for pillar candles, and protect your tables in a pinch if you’re, say, throwing a party and run out of decorative coasters.

Thanks to Dallas for taking these photos!

(After the jump, a few tips on tattoo cover-ups.)

Whenever I need to cover my tattoos for a project, I first pat down the area with several thin coats of relatively heavy foundation in a shade that matches my skin tone (a triangle sponge works well). Then I use a thin paintbrush to apply lighter concealer to the dark lines of my tattoo, and finish off with a generous application of pressed powder to set the makeup. If you’ve got a tattoo that needs occasional covering, you may also want to consider one of the specialty products that are on the market (try Tattoo Camo or browse the products on StageAndTheaterMakeup.com).
