Look At All The Fish We Caught!

Actually, we caught nothing (unless you count the same little smidge of clam that I reeled up over and over and over).

The misery of defeat was, however, quickly mitigated by a trip to Gajyumaru, on 1st Ave, for lunch. This place was recommended to me at last night’s Rosh Hashanah dinner by Seth and Stacy, who said that it had just about the most delicious sushi they’d ever eaten…and they were right. It’s a bit of a hole-in-the-wall (no glam decor or fussy service), but Gajyumaru doesn’t need any bells and whistles: it serves up pillowy, meltingly fresh sushi and perfectly fluffy rice with a simplicity and attention to quality that can be hard to find even in far fancier joints.

And the best part? No one knows about this tiny, nondescript place but you. And me. And…well, now I guess a few more people. But that’s it!
