Lord & Taylor Event / Small, Sweet Things

Last night I headed over to Lord & Taylor for an event celebrating their renovation (the store has got a pretty old-school rep, and they’re in the midst of a serious upgrade). I love these kinds of events mostly because I usually run into people who it makes me very happy to see, like The Gloss‘s Jennifer (pictured at left in one of the hot-pink hard hats we were required to wear during parts of the tour).

I also love these kinds of events because they frequently involve champagne and small, sugary things.

Like these:

These mini lemon tarts were served topped with lavender sugar flowers, which should probably be placed atop desserts whenever possible, no? You can buy all sorts of edible sugar flowers HERE.

Another dessert decor suggestion: try studding your sweets with edible borage flowers. I buy bunches in the summertime and place them in ice cubes and salads (they have a mildly cucumber-like flavor), but they’d be pretty adorning cakes and cupcakes, as well.

But back to last night! At the L&T event we got to spend some time chatting with Caroline Pieper-Vogt, the CEO of Fusion Beauty (they make the very wonderful Lip Fusion plumping glosses), who told us about a new product they recently launched, SculptDiva Contouring & Sculpting Blush, which adds color while smoothing out lines. I’m not yet in the market for a cheek-plumping product (one day, I suppose), but my mom tried it and loved the shimmery color.

We also headed over to NARS (my all-time favorite makeup company) to sample some of their new fall colors. I’m still most in love with their new line of glosses modeled on their most popular blush shades (oy, Angelika: heart), but Mom adored the brand-new Soft Touch Shadow Pencil in Palladium ($24, turquoise with silver glitter), which looks wayyyy too bright in the tube, but can be smudged to create a soft, smoky effect.

Fun!
