WEBSITES TO HELP YOU CONTINUE THAT DISCONTINUED HUE

Don’t you just hate it, your favorite makeup shade is terminated with no hope to bring it back from the dead. Here are two websites that will help you resurrect that color you can’t live with out:

  • ThreeCustom.com: This site allows you to click through a ginormous database chock full of discontinued makeup. Expect to find not only old lipstick shades, but also blushes, shadows, and bronzers.
  • Giella.com: Let’s you mail in a blob full of color for them to work on or you can custom design a shade from scratch. I’d really love to engineer my very own signature red lipstick using this site.

On my wedding day, I wore Vincent Longo Fleur de Flirt, which is the PERFECT natural pink (for my coloring, at least). If they ever discontinue the shade, you better believe that I’ll be contacting one of the above companies.

Since this Gap hat (which comes in other very cute colors) did not come off my head the entire time I was in Ohio (and see? I told you I spent all my time on that swing), I decided to peruse the Gap site to see what other hats I might want to stockpile for the cold months.

Here are my picks:

Fair Isle Trapper hat (want want want…for boys, but so what?)

Furry hat (for kids, but wish they made it in me-size)

Earflap Cadet cap (also for boys; again, so what?)

Slouchy Sparkle Sweater hat

This Juicy Couture hat is also adorable, although it’s a pale imitation of one that I was utterly obsessed with last year…it was pink (I believe) with pom-poms on the end, and was the coziest thing I’ve ever worn. Anyone know what I’m talking about?

P.S. Aren’t those shoes appropriate for clambering around the backyard at night? No matter, they’re brand-new (found them in a warehouse sale downtown on Tuesday) and I love them.

Alas, the only holiday eating tip I have is this: Do it. A lot.

Yum on the eggnog recipe! I’ve never made it before (I usually make cocktails with vodka, cranberry juice, a splash of soda water, a splash of Chambord and fresh cranberry garnishes around the holidays), but I will give eggnog a go this year.

Remember how I got sick on my last day in London? I still have a residual cough that, while not bad enough to make me go to the doctor, is still kind of annoying (especially in the mornings, when I wake my husband by hacking and gasping. He loves this). So this morning I puttered around on Grannymed.com looking for some home remedies for a lingering cough. The site recommends licorice, aloe, and even chocolate (!), but this recipe (which once again uses the magic curative, garlic) sounded best to me.

GARLIC & HONEY CURE FOR COUGH

Simmer a garlic clove in water until soft. Muddle garlic and 1 tbsp honey, then add 1 tbsp lemon juice or apple cider vinegar. Consume.

Houses with basketball hoops in their driveways are a little hard to come by in NYC, but there are affordable or free courts all over the city (a full list is here). According to NY Mag, the best basketball court is Aviator Sports & Recreation in Brooklyn, where $10 gets you court time, locker access, and yummy food-court offerings like Grimaldi’s pizza.

Boltons plaid button-down, ABS jeans, Gap hat (they’re amazing…I want one in every color).
