Happy first anniversary to the love of my life.
August 31, 2009.
After my haircut, Kendrick and I walked west, back towards our old ‘hood (Hell’s Kitchen). In the middle of Times Square, he gave me an early anniversary present: he stopped right in the middle of the pedestrian area, directly below the bleachers and the Coca-Cola sign, and began slow-dancing with me while singing a love song at the top of his lungs. I cried.

Shiny, shiny, shiny. The treatment makes your hair look like this for weeks.

The last time I got my hair cut was a full year ago, almost to the day. I’ve been so determined to grow it long that I’ve shied away from the salon, but my wedding anniversary is coming up on Monday, and that made me remember the last time anyone took scissors to my hair: it was a couple of days before my wedding, and the stylist was Karmela at the John Sahag Workshop.
Karmela actually did my hair for my wedding as well, and it was pretty spectacular (if I do say so myself). I’ve known her for years, and so of course it was her that I went to when I finally decided it was time for a trim. She never disappoints – she does dry cuts (they dry and straighten the hair first for a more precise shape), and I always leave the salon looking exactly as I’d hoped.
Favorite favorite favorite new ABS jeans, Bakers shoes.

In our hallway, on my way to Janet’s bachelorette party. (Fluorescent lighting is no one’s friend.)
Vintage dress, Forever 21 vest, vintage & Cartier necklaces, Miu Miu bag.
Opening my going-away present on my last day of work. My bosses gave me a Votivo Red Currant candle (which happens to be my favorite scent in the line) and some MAC Turquatic perfume. It was really sweet. I got a little teary, to tell the truth.
But it’s time to move on.

Somebody is thrilled that Mom quit her job and is about to spend all day, every day with her!
Today was my last full day (I’m still working part-time while I train my replacement). It was exciting and terrifying in equal measure.
