Black Knee-High Boots: Work To Weekend

Q. Hi Jordan!

My boyfriend bought a pair of black knee-high boots for me and I am in mad love with them! But how should I style them for work vs. play?? I love your style so I’d love your input!

Thanks!

Elizabeth

A. Lucky you! There’s nothing like a truly great pair of black knee-high boots: I have three pairs (one flat, one with a low heel, and one with a high heel) and basically just rotate through them all winter long. If you’re looking to invest in a single pair, I think your boyfriend had the right idea (good man!): a mid-height wedge boot is comfortable enough to wear during the day, but easily goes out at night, as well.

My favorite way to wear them is over skinny jeans or printed leggings (I’m actually wearing a vintage sweater, gold-studded leggings, and black knee-high boots today), but honestly, the possibilities with these things are endless.

The key, to me: including at least one “soft” piece (a cozy sweater, a slouchy scarf, or a relaxed-fit tee) to balance out the toughness of all that black leather.

For work, try pairing your boots (I think the Rupert Sandersons pictured here are also pretty great) with a skirt in a bold pattern and soft layers on top.

…And for play, I love the relaxed silhouette of boyfriend jeans tucked into boots and a big old knit sweater (a slouchy cream sweater is high on my list of must-owns for the season).
