The approach of fall is leaving me torn.
On the one hand, I’m excited for sweaters and boots and cider and pumpkins and all things crisp outside and cozy inside.
On the other hand…
I don’t think I’m quite ready to let go of my straw hats.
To transition neatly into an autumnal state of mind while still navigating these steamy temperatures, I like the idea of going for slightly darker, more classic colors on summer styles (like this navy tank dress, which I picked up for $12 and have barely taken off since) and more heavy-duty accessories, like a perfect black tote with stunning hardware.
And silver. All of a sudden, all I want to wear is silver.
In other words, a little more Madison Avenue and a little less Beach Blanket Bingo.
For this post, I sent over a few of your most pressing bag-related questions to Anna, designer/creative director for Foley & Corinna handbags.
Ramshackle Glam: If I’m planning to invest in a classic handbag, what kinds of things should I be looking for?
Foley & Corinna: Look for a bag with a timeless quality and look. Something you can see yourself carrying in the summer and winter, for business and casual – not following any particular trend. And of course great details and hardware always look good.
RG: This fall, what shapes/colors/details are you loving?
F&C: I love the shrunk-down classics – not super mini, just shrunken. It is such a great way to wear a bag day to night [without resorting to] a silly, tiny clutch. I always love browns, from tans and camels to rich chocolates, but lately I’m falling in love with the electric bright colors (not fluorescent, but rather super electric and rich).
RG: Which F&C bag is your favorite for daytime? For nighttime? For all the time?
F&C: For daytime I am still in love with my Jet Setter (pictured above) – it’s an amazing work bag that’s great for travel. For nighttime, we just did an amazing clutch with an optional short shoulder chain, the Python Clutch. It will be in stores for holiday – and I am obsessed!
RG: How do I care for an investment bag?
F&C: Don’t spill your drink/coffee on it! that seems to be the #1 problem that people have. Use a leather protector for it and you can have it cleaned if need be – there are great bag cleaning specialists. Store it in a dustbag up in your closet – be nice to it and it will be nice to you!
