I was born in New York City, and in the years since I’ve only left twice: once for college, and the other time to pursue a career as an actress in L.A. I think it’s safe to say that I love the place, and that living here is pretty much a dream come true.
What I do not love about New York City is the fact that it seems 100% impossible to own an apartment here. Which means I think that Bid On The City is pretty cool. It’s a live online bidding site for luxury Manhattan and Westchester properties, and starting November 16 you can watch and bid in real time for 18 properties worth $30 million. Oh…and the bidding starts at $1.
The property shown in the photo at the left (which has…I’m sorry, is that a washing machine?!), for example, was originally listed at 279k. I’m not looking to move, but that’s an amazing price for a 2-bedroom – granted, it’s way up on 135th street, but for under 300k I would deal – and right now the bidding for it is starting at ONE. DOLLAR. I can’t imagine it going for less than 250k – in fact, I can’t even imagine it going for that (a 2-bedroom!) – but how awesome would it be if you snagged it for less?
Also! Bid On The City is giving away $100K if you guess the final bidding price on 10 consecutive properties. I’m terrible at guessing property prices, but if that’s something for which you have a talent, why not give it a shot?
