The Most Fabulous (And Flattering) One-Piece Swimsuits For Summer 2018

Summersalt Swimsuit; Similar (very on sale) Towel

It was 75 and sunny yesterday, so I have officially decided to start writing about summer and summer-related things, like beach attire. Mostly because I’m bored of talking about – and wearing – sweatpants.

Can we all agree that it is WONDERFUL that one-piece swimsuits are not only “back,” but so back that it seems like amazing new styles are coming out every single day, and in every single price range? I’m not in an especially stomach-baring mood – for whatever reason my surgery completely destroyed any muscle tone I might have had, and that plus paleness is making me a little shy at the moment – but even if I was, I’d wear these anyway (and plan to, starting on Cinco de Mayo, which will find me poolside even if it’s fifty degrees out).

They’re so good.

Reformation Tropicana One-Piece

Everything about this bathing suit – the color, the cut, the waistline, the front-tie – is perfect. A word of caution, though: Reformation’s tops are sometimes cut on the small side, so if you’re a B-cup or more, consider sizing up so you don’t, you know, overfloweth.

Missguided White High-Leg One-Piece

If you buy one new suit this summer, let it be a high-leg, low-back stunner in a neutral color – and then add matching sunglasses.

3/11

Aerie Po One-Piece Swimsuit

A suuuuper low back and barely-there straps (so expect a little sideboob)…and that COLOR. (Obviously a little self-tanner will need to be applied first, but it’s worth the effort.)

4/11

Aerie Ruffle-Back One-Piece

It’s a mullet swimsuit! (…Party in the back…? …No?)

Why I like it: The slightly rusty shade of red feels very ’70s, and the ruffle accents add a little extra something without taking away from the suit’s simplicity.

Becca Etc Making The Cut One-Piece

Like everyone else on the planet, I love a great black bathing suit, and the graphic cutouts and single shoulder on this one make it feel dramatic. (Available in sizes 0XPlus-3XPlus.)

6/11

J. Crew Flutter-Sleeve Liberty Print One-Piece

I don’t even understand how this is a swimsuit, but it’s wonderful. And if you just throw some high-waisted shorts on top, you’re dressed! Like, for-real dressed! Amazing.

7/11

J.Crew Cross-Back Bandeau One-Piece

I just picked up one of these myself (in red) – it’s sleek and classic, and I can wear it in my non-beach life, too. I also really love it in black and in the navy stripe.

Summersalt Swan Dive

I own a bunch of Summersalt swimsuits – they’re really nicely made, and really nicely priced, and I love how they’re all simple and classic, but have unique elements like unexpected cutouts or colorblocking. The Swan Dive, pictured here, is my favorite – it’s a teeeeeny bit retro-feeling – sort of like something Taylor Swift would have worn during her high-waisted bathing suits phase – but not costume-y at all, and the mustard-and-navy combo is killer.

9/11

L Space Paradise One-Piece Swimsuit

This gives me all the 1990s Miami Vice feels (in a very good way).

10/11

Mara Hoffman Cleo Cut-Out Swimsuit

I don’t know how Mara Hoffman does it, but over and over she creates bright, multicolored one-pieces (with cutouts!) that manage to be universally flattering. None of this makes sense, but there you go.

Remember this suit? The one pictured above is like the 2.0 version of that.

Kore Cutout Halter Swimsuit

The light grey bottom half makes this evoke a kind of swimsuit-meets-sweatsuit.

Which is to say: I’m into it.
