The “before” (totally fine, but zzzzzzzz).
First, please tell me you get the reference in the title. Thank you. Now, you may recall I have a thing for pink bathrooms – I painted the tiny bathroom in our San Jose house a deep rose shade (vastly improved from the prior olive-and-vomit-themed aesthetic). In my new place, the main bath is very much not-tiny: There’s an entirely separate vanity area (pictured above) with its own sink and walk-in closet in addition to the toilet-and-bathtub bathroom itself. Which means my “personal suite” in our apartment constitutes about 1/3 of the total square footage.
Which is A-OK by me.
Anyway, I wanted to incorporate a dusty, pale peach-pink into my bathroom here both because the shade makes me happy, and also because the shade makes my skin look good, especially when paired with dimmable lighting. The initial plan was to use Farrow & Ball’s Pink Ground, but hoooooly that stuff is expensive. So I went on a search for a dupe, and ended up with Behr’s Bubble Shell: A pink that’s just pink enough without being too pink. (Sort of like Shelby’s bouquet.)
My natural inclination is towards aged brass hardware, but with the pink I wanted to go for more of an Art Deco vibe than a romantic one, so I used my usual trick: I went on fancy sites that sell $600 mirrors and $50 (apiece!) drawer pulls, figured out what look I wanted, and then typed those keywords into Google and found way cheaper versions that I swear look exactly the same.
Finishing touches: A faux orchid from Target that I own in quadruplicate, vintage glass milk vases, a 1970s Folon poster…and a Caboodle to match.
