I woke up bright and early this morning excited to see a bit of Charleston before we start shooting. First order of business: finding a great breakfast spot within walking distance of the hotel.
On the advice of the concierge, I headed over to Joseph’s, where I had Eggs Sardou (basically Eggs Benedict with sauteed spinach and artichoke hearts instead of meat) and grits. Lord, do I ever love grits.
I worked off breakfast by spending an hour or so wandering around the city, which is without question one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been in my life. I actually called Kendrick and suggested that we consider moving here one day.

On the way back to the hotel, I popped into a beautiful home furnishings store called Vieuxtemps, which smelled like…well, heaven, if heaven were filled with jasmine and bamboo. Upon inquiring, I discovered that the scent was the Conservatory Candle. It’s expensive – $48 at Vieuxtemps and $44 here – but if candles are your thing, this might just be the best one I’ve ever smelled.
The last stop before heading to work was the most wallet-damaging one: I stopped into the Kingsley Warren Boutique on King Street, where I discovered my new favorite t-shirts, by Freeloader. They’re made of the softest, lightest material imaginable, and are only in the $20-$30 range. You must buy one. (I also bought the super-wide-leg yoga pants pictured above, $25, which are unbelievably soft and perfect for when you want to look just a little bit elegant while swanning around the house). The store just opened four days ago, so they don’t have a website, but you can call them at (843) 724-9144 to order.
