Thursday night, Francesca and I got in some concentrated bonding time by running all over town together to attend three separate events (I wore relatively responsible, low-heeled footwear…see, Mom?).
First stop: the Ann Taylor Summer 2011 preview. I associate Ann Taylor with a more conservative look than I’d typically go for, but the Frieda Kahlo-inspired collection (lots of warm browns, sunny blues, and creamy neutrals) contained lots of elegant pieces that I would absolutely incorporate into my wardrobe.
This relaxed summer suit was my favorite. The pants were more belled-out than you can see in this image, and I loved the styling, with the slouchy brown leather bag and big jewelry.
Quick aside: I get a lot of queries about where to find great bridesmaids’ dresses, and in case any of you are in the market, I wanted to show you these, from Ann Taylor:
From left: One-Shoulder Silk Georgette Bridesmaid Dress; Alyssa Crinkle Silk Georgette Dress; Strapless Petal Dress.
So pretty and flattering, right?
Above, my favorite hors d’oeuvre at the preview: I think I’ll call them Little Mushroomy Things. They were wonderful, and I imagine you could construct an approximation of them by stirring some chopped, sauteed mushrooms and onions into goat cheese and sandwiching the mixture between tiny tortilla (or pita) circles. Yum.
The Great Gatsby-esque jewelry was stunning. Stunning. And this Golden Leaves Stretch Bracelet ($88) was my runaway favorite. I may need to buy it.
Next stop: beautiful lingerie shop La Petite Coquette (which you may remember from SATC – it’s where Samantha bought that pearl thong contraption that she wore for Richard).
OK, you know how they say that 3/4 of the women out there are wearing the wrong-size bra and should really get a professional fitting? Well, last night we were given professional fittings…and…yes. The difference between what I do wear and what I should wear is mortifyingly extreme. So: get thee to a professional fitting, ladies.
The bra pictured above was my favorite: it’s a comfortable yet gorgeous Chantecaille demi-cup with straps sexy enough that I’d happily let them show in my many off-the-shoulder tops. I also think this (potentially NSFW, hence a link rather than a picture) thing is spectacular.
But let’s be honest: this is really what you’re more likely to find me in.
Excellent news: La Petite Coquette is offering Ramshackle Glam readers a one-time 15% discount through February 13 – just use code ILUVLPC at checkout!
Yay!
Finally, we went to the Club Monaco Spring 2011 Preview, where everyone and their mother fell in love with this chunky Arlington hand-knit men’s cardigan:
It is very cozy and weekend-in-Aspen-y, but personally I’m dreaming of warmer weather and very much love this:
So there you have it! Long night; lots and lots (and lots) of fun.
