L to R: Show Beauty Pure Treatment Hair Oil; African Marula Oil; Lierac Huile Sensorielle
I can’t get enough of them.
Here’s the thing about pregnancy skin: it might be better than your “regular” skin, it might be worse…but in my experience one thing it is guaranteed to be is different than what you’re used to. And so while now is not really the time to experiment with new creams and lotions (because lots of things – like salicylic acid, which is found in tons of anti-aging treatments – can’t be used when you’re expecting), what’s worked for me is stripping everything down to the basics and upping the moisture (because you turn into a crazy water fiend when you have a baby on the way, and I figure that your skin must feel the same way).
And yeah, oils are kind of weird, and not to everyone’s taste, but to me they feel very…basic. Elemental? I’ve been using them religiously every single night before bed for a couple of months now, and I have to say, my skin has never in my life (and I mean that: never in my life, or at least not since I was a kid and didn’t think about my skin at all) felt calmer or more even. And it could be hormones doing something good for a change, or it could be the fact that major moisture is really just what I needed.
But in any case, I’m a convert. Like, already making plans to explain to my daughter the wonders of applying oils to your skin every day (is that silly? I’m so excited about future conversations like these).
Here’s Ye Olde Skincare System these days:
Morning: Simple Skincare Moisturizing Facial Wash and Nourishing 24 Hour Day/Night Cream (super, super basic, with the best texture and no added fragrances or parabens; basically a pregnancy miracle product), and a drop of Show Beauty Pure Treatment Oil (a leave-in hair oil that contains Argan Oil and comes in the prettiest, most Elizabeth Taylor-y bottle ever).
Evening: A couple of Radiance Cleansing Wipes (if I didn’t wear makeup that day, which is happening lately) or Smoothing Facial Scrub (a gentle exfoliant) if I did, followed by African Marula Oil on my face (I love it so much; I had a couple of sample bottles from SpaceNK and this is the first time in my life that I’ve ever gone through whole sample bottles and then needed to order a full-sized product) and Lierac Huille Sensorielle on my stomach (half to prevent stretch marks, half because it smells so damn good), arms and hands.
All of these oils are fast-absorbing and leave skin (and hair) super-soft without feeling oily in the slightest. I swear.
I don’t get it, either, but I’ll take it.
