Last night, I met Lilit from TheGloss.com at the gloriously chic Raines Law Room. Plush, mismatched couches, a low tin ceiling, martinis served in coupe glasses…oh, and if you need another drink? Just pull the little cord set into the wall next to your table, and a server appears within moments. Amazing. It all made me want to wear a hat (Lilit did, and I was jealous).

The cocktail list is decadent and adventurous, but too pricey; I’d advise trying one of the specialty cocktails, and then switching to wine. I stuck to my usual dirty Ketel One martini (oddly purple due to the use of Kalamata olive juice), and Lilit had an Old Cuban.

OLD CUBAN

Rum (Raines uses Flora de Cana 7 Year Reserva Rum)

Lime Juice

Mint

Sugar or Simple Syrup

Angostura Bitters

Splash of Champagne

Muddle mint leaves with rum, lime juice, sugar, & bitters in a cocktail shaker. Add ice, cover, and shake until well combined. Strain liquid into glass and top with champagne. Garnish with a sprig of mint.
