AMAZING.
That back!
The Naeem Khan show made me get it.
I’ve seen a bunch of shows over the last few days – Ports 1961, Gilded Age, Twinkle by Wenlan, etc – and all of them were, you know…neat. The lights come up, the music starts pounding, and you get a little twinge of excitement in your stomach. It’s fun to see the clothing (and more fun to watch the expressions – or lack thereof – on the faces of the people sitting in the front row), but then it ends, and you can’t remember a single piece that you just saw.
This show changed everything for me, in terms of how I feel about high fashion, about fashion shows, and about Fashion Week in general. I want to see wearability in fashion, and these dresses were the things that I wear in my dreams. They were glowing, made your heart pound with their beauty, but even though they were loaded with sparkle the simplicity of their shapes suggested that they wouldn’t wear the woman. When the show came to a close, the entire audience – and I mean everyone – leapt to their feet for a much-deserved standing ovation.
