Leaving Meghan’s apartment wearing some of my acquisitions (those are Julia’s old Steve Madden shoes and Meghan’s old Habitual denim jacket…and that gorgeous thing on the floor behind me is a Michael Kors bag. Eek!).
I’ve never been to a clothing swap party before, and just couldn’t believe how well it worked.
Here’s what I expected to happen:
Nobody would bring clothes.
If anybody actually did bring clothes, they’d be clothes I wouldn’t want.
There would be one or two desirable items, and everyone would want the same ones.
Everyone would be too polite to take the “good stuff.”
Here’s what actually happened:
Nearly everyone brought piles and piles of clothes.
All of the clothing was excellent-quality; the room basically looked like an Intermix.
Everybody ended up wanting different things.
Every single person went home with items that they actually loved, and there was almost no disagreement over who took home what.
We’re in a recession, and there’s no way I can afford to shop at the moment (well, aside from the occasional Gap sweater…), and last night I came home with two enormous shopping bags stuffed full of incredible new items – for free!
Favorite Gap hat, Wurl dress (actually an XL shirt from Beall’s), Talbots scarf.
